Windows 10: Is simple data copy possible or to go for data recovery option - after tried for restoring...

My laptop was working fine with Windows 7, all of a sudden on one day it didn't boot up properly. When switched on, It ended up again saying whether to boot it normally or to boot from the recommended repair option. I tried normal booting multiple times, then as it didn't work I went for recommended repair option. Even it didn't work fully as I didn't have any external drive with the OS to give a proper repair. But it showed an option of older image which was stored in my laptop. I gave that option and it took time to restore to that older point. But even that was not successful and it again s

For a quick start to this, some pointers.

1. If you formatted a drive and did NOT write to it, recovery is possible. If you installed any data over it (such as windows, or copying files to it) then you need to restore a backup, or accept that you will have lost some, most, or all of your data.

2. Backups are not perfect - for example, a virus that killed your machine could also be in your backup. try and backup your important data first, not your operating system and useless files - and store it in more than one place if possible (for example, an external hard drive AND on DVD)

Data Recovery for Mac (OSX Capitan) ?

Anybody knows of a good data recovery software for mac? Preferably free?

I use Active@ Data Recovery for Windows, but honestly no idea what to use for Mac OSX.

Any suggestions?
