Discus and support Windows Server 2022 in-place upgrade to 2025 keeps failing "Windows setup failed" in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; My windows server upgrade keeps failing and i don't know why.     Windows Server 2022 in-place upgrade to 2025 keeps failing "Windows setup failed"


    My windows server upgrade keeps failing and i don't know why. I have tried a lot of solutions online but nothing works. Here is my setuperr.log file incase anyone can help me debug where and why it's happening.

    OS upgrade error - Windows server 2019 to WIndows server 2022 - In place upgrade method

    I've been trying to upgrade the OS of my Windows instance from 2019 to the Windows Server 2022 version using the In-place upgrade method. I've attached a volume containing Windows 2022 installation media to the instance and performed the update. But the upgrade failed showing the following error:

    How can I overcome this issue?

    I upgrade the drivers first and afterward upgraded the domain controller schema to the latest as the server is hosting a domain controller.
    Next, I attached the volume containing Windows 2022 installation media to the instance. Then I ran the following command on PowerShell to perform the upgrade:

    The installation proceeds after selecting the version but the installation failed after some time.

    Failed Windows update for Server 2022 Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073701

    This is a Windows 2022 server and have not been able to apply the cumulative update since November of 2022. Other updates like the ,Net and defender updates install without any issues, just the cumulative update fails. Failed Windows update for Server 2022 - Tried all the posted related for this error message but nothing seems to work - Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073701: 2023-02 Cumulative Update for Microsoft server operating system version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022842)

    I found several post and tried everything listed in the posts, still no luck. Need help.

    Windows Updates failed to instal

    I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time
