My personal PC still follows organization policies even after account removal, how do I get...

Hi, I connected my work Microsoft account to my personal computer because my university account didn’t have an active Office license anymore. After that, when I turned on my computer today, it forced me to change my login PIN from 4 digits to 6 digits to even have access to my computer. Which makes me quite mad because how dare you try and control my personal computer? Since then, I’ve removed everything: I disconnected the work account from the "Access work or school" section in Windows settings. I removed the account from all office apps. I restarted my computer and was able to log in wi

    Remove account

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:
    1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:

Receiving prompt "your organization needs you to change your password after remaining work account from personal computer

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you receive a prompt,” your organization needs you to change your password” on your computer. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

Ideally, if we sign in using a work account on a personal computer, there are chances that certain policies are applied on the computer. These policies might not be removed from the computer even after disconnecting the account from the computer. You
might need to get in touch with your local IT admin to get help in removing the policies.

However, as you are receiving a prompt "your organization needs you to change your password", let us try a couple of troubleshooting steps and check:

    1. Type command prompt in the search bar on the
      Taskbar.
    2. Right click on the command prompt icon and select
      Run as administrator.
    3. Now, type/paste the following command and hit Enter:
      wmic path Win32_UserAccount set PasswordExpires=False
    4. Close command prompt window.

I would also suggest you to post your query in
    TechNet forums
, where we have support professionals to assist you appropriately.

managed by your organization but is my personal PC

Thank you for reaching out! As an Independent Advisor and fellow Microsoft user, I'm happy to assist you.

It seems your PC is showing a message that some settings are "managed by your organization," even though it's your computer.

This can happen due to various reasons, but there's a simple fix we can try:

    1. Open the Start menu and type "Settings"

    2. Click on "Accounts"

    3. Select "Access work or school" on the left side

If you see any work or school accounts listed, click on them and select "Disconnect"

    4. Restart your computer

If this doesn't solve the issue, you can try:

-Open the Start menu and type "cmd"

-Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator"

-Type the following command and press Enter:

    REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows /f

    -Restart your computer

These steps should help remove the "managed by your organization" message. If you're still having trouble, it might be best to consider resetting Windows.

Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!
