Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

To help you remove the Optane Memory configuration from your BIOS/UEFI and prepare your system for a new SSD boot drive, follow these step-by-step instructions:

    1. Turn on your laptop and immediately start pressing the F2 key repeatedly until you enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
    2. Navigate to the "Main" tab using the arrow keys.
    3. Locate the "SATA Mode" setting. It is currently set to "RST with Optane".
    4. Change "SATA Mode" to "AHCI". Use the arrow keys to select "SATA Mode", press Enter, and then select "AHCI" from the options.
    5. Go to the "Exit" tab.
    6. Select "Exit Saving Changes" and confirm by pressing Enter. Your system will restart.
    7. Turn off your laptop and disconnect it from any power source.
    8. Open the laptop case to access the HDD and Optane Memory module. Refer to your laptop's manual for specific instructions on how to do this.
    9. Remove the HDD and the Optane Memory module carefully.
    10. Install the new SSD in the place of the HDD.
    11. Create a Windows installation USB drive if you haven't already. You can use the Windows Media Creation Tool on another computer to do this.
    12. Insert the Windows installation USB drive into your laptop.
    13. Turn on your laptop and press the F12 key repeatedly to access the boot menu.
    14. Select the USB drive from the boot menu and press Enter.
    15. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows on your new SSD.
    16. When prompted, select the SSD as the installation destination.
    17. Complete the Windows installation process by following the on-screen instructions.
    18. Install necessary drivers and updates once Windows is installed.
By following these steps, you should be able to remove the Optane Memory configuration from your BIOS/UEFI and install a new SSD as your boot drive. Should you wish, you may restore the BIOS settings to their default configuration by accessing the "Exit" tab and selecting the option labeled "Load Setup Defaults" for your convenience and peace of mind.

Please do let me know if the method I suggested works for you or if you need further assistance.

    HDD Crash and Optane Uninstallation

Are you certain that changing SATA mode to AHCI is the only bios level change Optane’s installation has made to my system BIOS?

I came across something in Optane’s guide called ‘Port Remapping’, Since I’m planning to replace the Optane with an M.2 NVMe drive, is that something I should worry about?

    AHCI vs regular Native IDE

If you want to change IDE to AHCI in windows 10, without a clean install, do the following steps:

    • Open Command Prompt (Admin)
    • type: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal
    • Restart PC and go into you BIOS -> Set IDE to AHCI
    • Windows 10 will start if Safe Mode
    • Open Command Prompt (Admin)
    • type: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot
    • Restart and Windows 10 should load with AHCI enabled now

Until now, I had a 100% succes rate with this, but in the case Windows 10 wouldn't start, go back into your BIOS and set AHCI to IDE.
