  2. How do I permanently disable the left swipe for articles and widgets?

I'm left handed and when writing with the slim pen, I continuously open the widgets causing me to be unable to write. It appears there isn't a way to disable this (only disable the widgets not the swipe). This issue makes the device almost unusable for the purpose I purchased if for (to take notes as an electronic replacement to a notebook). How can this be disabled and not reintroduced through the continuous Windows updates.

    Hi Adam,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I understand your frustration. It seems like the left swipe gesture is a common issue for left-handed users of Windows 11 devices. There are a few possible ways to disable the left swipe gesture, depending on your device and preferences. Here are some options you can try:

    - Option 1: Disable the screen edge swipe in the Local Group Policy Editor. This option will disable both the left and right swipe gestures for all users on your device. To do this, you need to have Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, or Education edition.

    - Open the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).

    - Navigate to the policy location: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Edge UI

    - In the right pane of Edge UI in the Local Group Policy Editor, Disable Screen Edge Swipe

    - Option 2: Referring to the figure below modify the Registry Editor by visiting: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\LockDown\AllowEdgeSwipe , change the value to 0. This may disable the Edge on Windows device swipe gestures on Windows devices. Edge swipe gestures are typically used for actions such as opening the Charms bar or accessing application commands.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

I hope one of these options works for you. If not, you can always hide the widgets button from the taskbar by right-clicking on it and selecting “Hide from taskbar”. This will not disable the left swipe gesture, but it will prevent the widgets from popping up when you swipe from the left edge of the screen. You can also give feedback to Microsoft about this issue by using the Feedback Hub app on your device or by visiting this link.

    Your Sincerely
