With Microsoft's burying the Start Menu in the registry, it becomes more incumbent on the community to require a start menu backup tool. We want to rightfully discourage people from messing with the registry and this is the only way to backup the start menu. It's true that many hardly use the start menu, but for those of us who customize Start a lot, this is a basic requirement. See

https://www.downloadsource.net/how-to-backup-your-start-menu-layout-on-windows-10/n/12422/ for how the start menu used to be backed up before redstone 5. This is a public plea for your upvote.

    Thanks for the consideration.

    :)

Windows 10 Start menu is empty

Hi. Steps 1 and 2 didn't do much but step 3 has restored what looks like the list of original Microsoft apps but no sign of any of the many apps I have installed. And there are no tiles in the start menu. Any suggestions please?

  8. I know, ANOTHER message on Start Menu Backup

My previous replies do not seem to be reflected, so let me summarize here. there are no error messages and start menu is fully functional except for missing tile after restore process. This is in Win 10, redstone 5, build 17704.1000. Troubleshooter finds no problems. The backup, test unpinning and restore all ran clean with errorlevel = 0 but the tile I unpinned was not restored. This has already been verified by the writer of the disqus article. Link is in my original post
