Windows 10: Windows 10 Rollback to previous build stuck

1. Windows 10 shoved another of its "updates" down my throat


2. The update messed up my sound system's "Stereo Mix" recording device file.


3. Because I it had been recommended BY A MICROSOFT SUPPORT TECNICIAN at a prior occurance of this exact same thing happening, I went and started a rollback to the last build (by the way, since the last time this happened Windows barely gave me a few weeks before again trying ti shove another update down my throat--a.k.a. "not giving ME the option of DISABLING updates)


4. The rollback got atuck while on the black screen, and it keeps cycling from those stupid circling "marbles" to a blip of a message starting with the word "Attempting", to the message "Restoring . .. ", and then that message disappears, and the (I think) the screen goes blank and a white frame about 2/3 the width of my screen flashes on the screen very fast, and on, and on, and on, etc.


I am VERY MUCH GRIEVED by what some technicians said regarding what the problem could be.


A. One nsuggested that my hard drive was failing.


B. Another suggested that the Windiws got corrupted, and needs to be "reinstalled", thereby necessitating having to reinstall all of my applications.


What could the problem be, and can' this be resolved without a lot of grief.

reverting to previous build/version

I would appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue.

• When the computer did froze? Is it when you tried to roll back?
• Did you receive any error message?

I suggest you to remove all the external devices plugged in to the computer and check if it helps to resolve the issue. If the issue persists, please restart the computer and check whether it rolled back or not. If it loads Windows 10,
I suggest you to download the latest ISO of Windows 10 and perform automatic repair.

Steps to perform repair:

a) Insert the installation DVD or USB
and boot Windows 8 from it.

b) In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.

c) Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

d) Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

Windows stuck on previous restoring loop

Hi Mandy,

When an update to a newer version of Windows 10 is not successfully installed the device will automatically rollback to the previous version. If the device is stuck in a loop of restoring the previous version of Windows, this could be caused by system files
that got corrupted. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions below:

• Were there any other changes made prior to the issue occurring?
• Were there any error messages that showed up when you saw the restore loop?
• What troubleshooting steps have you completed?

Rollback to Previous Windows

Please be informed that, you can rollback to the previous version of Windows provided the Windows.old folder is saved in the same partition where the OS is installed.
