Allow an app through Controled folder access

    Hello

I am not sure what this image attached to this question is asking I.e I have no idea what app is being referr Allow an app through Controled folder access 95dd665d-b798-4554-848e-69a77b47daa5?upload=true.jpg ed to! I am not even sure what the 'Control folder' refers to! I was going to look it up like usual before posting but I have many things open and I am trying to finish or get to a 'mark' on a project and have tabs open here there and every where. Anyone who could find the time to elaborate on the meaning on this image I would be vert appreciative for the time?!? I once asked if it was ok to post questions about subjects that are not exclusively Windows Microsoft related and one member said it was ok? As long as there is some sort of Microsoft link like the V Machine is this true. I have been trying to take part in the community discussions to but by the time I find the latest one it seems they are over or the question is answered by much more able persons than my self. Some times it is like one cannot see the wood for the trees either. Any hoo anyone with any experience with the 'Controlled folder' and what this app may be please tell. I was running the Security centre and for a few seconds the GUI control panel did say it was going to run an 'offline scan' automatically! It did not actually say that but from an advanced scan that had been running for hours suddenly flicked into a 'offline scan' beginning to prepare to run which then changed to the GUI message in the image attached to this question. Thanks for the time Another cheeky question is why do the inserted images appear in the middle of the text. Fair do's it is probably better this way as one has to think first where the image is going to appear on the other hand the last system was much more 'professional looking' and 'user friendly' so why change? Just seems things are changed for the sake of it some times even if the past system was better. Although I am sure there is a good reason for it other than keeping someone in a job. Surly persons with that much talent would just say I am no longer needed here and move on to something else! Anyway once again Thanks for the time

    Best Regards

    :)

    Controlled Folder Access blocked

    Hi Aeolus0,

The Controlled Folder Access is an enterprise-class ransomware protection component that was recently added to Windows Defender. When you turn on Controlled folder access, a lot of the folders you use most often will be protected by default. This means that
content in any of these folders cannot be accessed or changed by any unknown or untrusted apps. Once you add additional folders, they become automatically protected as well. To add protected folders:

    • Select Virus & threat protection settings.
    • Under Controlled folder access, select Protected folders.
    • Select Add a protected folder and follow the prompts to add folders.

If you see an App is blocked message when you try to use a familiar app, you can simply unblock the app. If this message displays:

    • Write down or take note of the path of the blocked app.
    • Select the message, and then select Add an allowed app.
    • Browse for the program you want to allow access.

As for your query about having no sounds on your computer, it could be caused by an outdated or corrupted audio driver. For us to assist you better, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Which version and OS build number of Windows 10 is currently installed? To check, press the
Windows key, type winver, and press the
      Enter
      key.
    • Have you tried to download and install the latest audio driver from the manufacturer's website of your device?

Meanwhile, you can try the steps in this
    link
to troubleshoot sound issues on Windows 10.

We'll be looking forward to your reply.

    Controlled folder access problems

I turned on controlled folder access in latest Windows 10 and tested with a few programs I use. I tested by adding Libreoffice calc (c:\program files\libreoffice5\scalc.exe) as an allowed app. However, with controlled folder access on I can't save any spreadsheets that I modify in my Documents folder, which is one of the controlled folders. Same problem with saving an image from either Gimp or Photoshop Elements when I add them to the list of allowed apps.

In its present state this feature seems pretty unusable.

Allow an app through Controled folder access

    Controlled folder access problems

The action center notification for a Controlled Folder Access event tells you exactly what was blocked and the path to find it. You can then just add it to the 'allowed apps' list.

This is not always the obvious executable you'd expect. @NickJP's LibreOffice is a case in point. To get full access for my LibreOffice it was soffice.bin that had to be an allowed app.

If you no longer have the action center notification to hand, or if the path was truncated because it's too long, don't worry. These Controlled Folder Access events are also recorded in the Event Log as Event ID 1123 in...
