Network Printers deployed via GPO to computer randomly stop showing for users

We have had printers deployed via GPO from a print server for several years now. We push the policy to computer not user, so no matter who logins the printer will be there. Suddenly we are having computers randomly not show the printers at the client. We are all win10 clients on a 08 domain level with a 2012 print server. We are using the generic HP PCL 6 driver, have had no issues until about August when printers randomly show and dont show for user. ex: user A logs on printer shows, may work for muliple logins and may not. Relogin, reboot of client all have varying effects. We checked our policies, Auth Users have Read, DomainComputers have Read. We have gone through logs and finding typical errors that lead no where. Any others out there have recent issues with GPO deployed printers?

    :)

I loathe printers and HP rant

That old printer on network: the installation progress was like this. I just need to find its IP address on the LAN and Windows asked what kind of printer it was. I found the brand on the list of hardware and selected it. That was all that needed to be done.

As for the Brother printer. Obviously, I needed to let it connect to the wireless network and then it simply showed up on my Win 10 laptop. I didn't need to do anything.

    Networked Printer showing "Offline"

    Hey guys,

I'm having a slight issue with one of my printers in that it's showing offline and I can't print to it.

It's a Datamax label printer which is connected to my network via a Netgear print server, this has then be added to one of my servers for sharing etc.

So far I've tried the below.

    - Classic on/off.
    - Removing from server and re-adding.
    - Ensuring that under port configuration SNMP Status is disabled.
    - Assigning to different IP.
    - Restarting Print Spooler.

I can ping it fine and the printer itself is letting me do manual test prints using its interface, but no matter what I cannot get it to stop showing up as offline and allowing me to print to it over the network. I should add that it's worked fine for the past year.

    Any suggestions?

Printer Network Bridge Not Identifying Computer

    Hi Bryan,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

If issue persists, then try the steps provided below and see if it helps.

    Method 1:

I suggest you to try running Printer troubleshooter and check if it fixes the issue. To do so kindly follow the below given steps:

    • Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • Select View all on the top left corner.
    • Click on Printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
    • Check if issue persists.

    Method 2: Change permissions

I would suggest you to check if the user account has permission to print and manage the printer. Refer these steps:

    a) Press Windows key +C, select control panel

    b) Under Hardware and devices, select view devices and printers

    c) Locate your printer and right click

    d) Click on the Printer properties from the menu and select security tab

    e) Select your user account name from the list of user accounts

    f) Make sure that all the check boxes against the permissions are marked as “Allow”.

If the permission is already set as “allow”, then this could be a network setting issue. Check if your account is configured correctly to the network and check the network options.

    Method 3: Re-install the printer

If the permission settings and the network settings are set correctly and yet you are facing this issue, I would suggest uninstall and re-install the printer and check. You can follow the steps provided below to do so:

Note: Please make sure that you have the setup file for the driver of the printer before uninstalling the current version.

    a) Press Windows and x key together and click on Device Manager.

    b) Locate the printer driver and expand the driver icon.

    c) Right click on the driver icon and click on Uninstall.

    d) Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the driver.

    e) Locate the setup file of the driver for the printer.

    f) Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the driver.

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.

    Regards,
