Windows 10: Can't save playlists in Windows Media Player, error Windows Media Player encountered a...

WMP works just fine for playing videos and sound clips. I've never really used it for managing my music or media files since that's not an important part of my life... but I finally want to create a playlist so I can shuffle between a bunch of different small clips randomly and I can't save any playlists.

When I go to create a playlist, as soon as I've named it, I get a popup error, Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating or saving the playlist. A fix I heard to do elsewhere is to click on Organize > Manage Libraries > Music etc and change the folder it's pointed at. When I go in to manage a library, the current folder always says "Unavailable" next to it. Then I'll change the folder, the new folder becomes the default and public save location, I remove the old one and exit the library. If I go to save a playlist now, I still get the same error. If I go check on the manage library folders... they always say Unavailable when I go back to check on them. I change them it says default and public I click on okay and if I go right back in to manage library its repeating that the folder is unavailable. Doesn't matter what folder on what drive or wherever I try to point it to, it always goes back to being unavailable after I close the music library locations menu and I'll get the error when trying to save the play list.

Other fixes I've tried include:
1.) Deleting and refreshing the library files at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player
2.) Deleting the windows cache for WMP at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft
3.) Checking system integrity and replacing corrupt system files (hint, ran the tests and everything was fine.)

What else should I try?

Saving playlists in windows media player

I am trying to add a playlist in windows media player. I have several from my time with windows 7. I add the songs to the playlist and try to save the new list. I would type in the name and I would get "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating
or saving the playlist." I have tried many things and I have looked at the suggested fixes but I have no idea what to do.

Any suggestions that can help?

and from the last link is the same error where you can just disable it too =)

 

Faulty Windows Media Player

Windows Mesdis Player developed a fault (Played jerky an missed bits) so I down loaded Media Player 10.

It's no better. Any suggestions (I run Windows 98)
