    Setting my Default Apps wont work for some apps.


    Alright so i recently decided it was time to format windows as i usually do it once a year. So when i did everything worked just fine.. then i updated.. it set me on 1703 or so.. obviously it wasn't 1803 which was the latest released version when i formatted about a week ago.. So i updated again.. and ofc this time i got 1803..


    All good other than the fact that for some reason there was a Windows.old folder under my Windows folder.. So i quickly tried to delete.. I wasn't allowed.. So i googled and ended up with Disk Cleanup. Did that, it very well cleared the Windows.old folder and gave me 25gb of storage.. The thing is after doing that i can no longer change some of the default apps.


    I had MPC for videos and Notepad++ for texts and so. Chrome/Firefox as default browsers works just fine.. as does VLC as default video player..


    But for some reason MPC and Notepad++ just wont work. I have tried every way and its completely bugged. ANY way & googled it so many times and all i found was old bugs in 1709 or so. Every time i try to set the default app to MPC/Notepad++ it sets the default app to something else& leaves the OpenWith.exe left running in the taskbar. One for every attempt.


    Will this be fixed in the upcoming win10 update? bcs i cant see any other way. I tried googling for changing my default apps via the regedit.exe app, but didn't find anything that did that as far as i looked.


    So is there anything i can do to fix this?

    Setting defaults by app


    I need help to understand how do set ALL supported file formats to associated app.
    In Settings > Default Apps > Defaults by app > APP > Manage I get overlong list of file formats, most of them unassociated.
    I don't find any method how to select them all and assign them to this App. In Windows 8.x it worked this way I have detailed list with sorting and multiselect capabilities. That list in Windows 10 is dummy and unable to assign other way than selecting App from drobdown for each format. Is that smarter list from Windows 8 really gone?

    Setting Default Apps in the Settings app doesn't work

    I have the same problem but I would like to set the Iron browser to default. I can set any browser when using set default by apps but SRware Iron does not even show up on the apps list. It is installed. I even reinstalled it as someone else suggested.
    Why is this the only browser that I cannot set as default.

    Hello,

    We understand the issue you are facing and will assist you.

    I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

    • Navigate to Start>Settings>System.
    • In the left pane, click on Default Apps.
    • In the right pane, click on Choose default apps by file type.
    • Set the default App to open .jpg files and check for status.
