Windows 10: McAfee and Windows Defender Security Centre

    McAfee and Windows Defender Security Centre


    Hello,


    I have recently purchased a Laptop and put McAfee for the Anti-Virus protection. I have a problem with what seem to be the two software clashing together. Inside the McAfee, it informs me that the Firewall is on however, inside the Windows Defender Security Centre all section for the Firewall is off. Also, when i go onto my Browser, it informs me that the firewall is off. I don't know if it is on and if it is if it is the Defender Firewall or the McAfee Firewall. i have re-installed the McAfee software after it got removed after a Windows Update and it still hasn't fixed the issue. if someone has an idea on how to fix it i will be most grateful.

    Windows Defender Vs. McAfee Security Centre

    I have a six year old Dell Studio Windows 7 Home Premium Desktop that came preinstalled with McAfee Security Centre from new.

    Those who use McAfee will know that its a paid subscription, and usually works out between £30 - £70 per year depending on what deals they're doing.

    However, I've recently done the free upgrade to Windows 10 and noticed that Windows Defender is available as what looks like a "free antivirus protection programme".

    My current McAfee subscription is due to expire next year - and my question is.....

    Is Windows Defender an acceptable substitute to McAfee Security Centre?? Or is it advisable to continue with McAfee??

    My only concern is that being as its free, Windows Defender may be very basic and simply not be as comprehensive as a paid subscription.

    Any help would be appreciated.
