registry edit no longer controls adaptive contrast

i have a laptop running windows 10, and one of the most irritating "features" is adaptive contrast: if a website has a gray or dark background, the brightness will gradually dim. it gradually brightens if you switch to a white window or website.

it can be very difficult to find help with disabling this feature, because microsoft staff frequently confuse it with adaptive brightness, which relies on sensors to detect ambient light. adaptive brightness can be controlled through power settings. but adaptive contrast cannot be directly controlled.

and every time windows forces me to update, it turns adaptive contrast back on. for the past couple of years, i have relied on a registry edit that adjusts the value of "featuretestcontrol" and, in the past, worked. loosely stated, i would edit the value directly. however, this fix no longer seems to work. specifically, in the bit field for the featuretestcontrol key, changing the applicable bit to "1" used to turn contrast off, but i still get the problem even with the bit set to 1.

does anyone know a workaround? are we stuck with this eye-killing "feature"?

    :)

  2. Registry editing

    Hello,

This issue may have occurred after one of the following situations:

    • You upgrade the Windows operating system.
    • You install or uninstall CD or DVD recording programs.
    • You uninstall Microsoft Digital Image.

Given that, we suggest performing the methods in this article:
Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs
    .
The resolutions that are listed in that article may help solve some instances but not all instances of this problem.

Important:This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
    article.

Feel free to update us with the results.

  3. High Contrast Mode in Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to apply the changes from the settings option in Windows 10 and check if it helps.

    1) Type High contrast settings in the search box and then click on High Contrast settings.

    2) In the right pane select the level of contrast choose a theme and check.

I also recommend you to update the graphic drivers of the computer and check if it helps.

    • Open Device Manager.

    • Expand ‘Display Adapter’.

    • Locate the display driver.

    • Right-click on the display card listed and click on ‘Update Driver Software’
Hope this helps. Please reply to us with the status of the issue.

    Thanks.

    Jump Lists No Longer Appear

After the uninstallation of some software yesterday, I no longer have jump lists in my taskbar icons. I right click on them, and there's no response whatsoever. Right click functionality on the taskbar itself and in all other places appears to be normal. I'm hoping there will be a relatively simple registry key I can edit or something. Anyone have some suggestions?
