Windows 10: Printer not using preferences

Here's a weird one.


2 systems, one a homebuilt Intel-based tower and the other an AMD based laptop, both:


Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit system with all updates.

Canon MF227DW Laser printer with the current drivers

Windows has all current drivers for the printer. Uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled device and drivers.


Windows has control of the printer.


The print pre3ferences are defaulting to the last settings that were used, regardless of the app used. I can go from banking to Word to Excel... and whatever was the last settings, 2 sided, landscape, letter or legal, is what is used in the next app.


The only way to go back to the default settings on the printer is a) manually change them or b) restart the system.


I have contacted Canon and they are able to reproduce the symptoms on their systems using the same printer and Windows 10. HOWEVER when they use the same printer on a Windows 7 system the problem does not manifest itself.


I've talked to MS but have gotten no satisfaction from them. Turning to all of you to see if anyone else has had, or heard, of the problem.


Not critical but irritating as I often forget to change settings and have to reprint.

Step 1:

  Type change default printer and hit

  Check whether you are able to change the preferences and properties from here.
  

Step 2:

  Type printers and scanners and hit
  enter.
  
• 
  Check whether you are able to change the preferences and properties from here.

Finding printer preferences

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue and to provide you better assistance.

• Does the right click works on all other apps/program/files?
• What happens when you try to right lick on the pics that you are trying to copy?

To set the printing preference, kindly follow the below given steps:

• Press the Start menu, type Devices and Printers and hit enter.
  
• Right-click the printer that you want to use, and then click Printing preferences.
• Make your choices, and then click OK.

Check if issue is resolved.

Printer preferences not identical on connected PCs


Thanks for the replies. Re-installed my printer as a 'network' printer, not USB. Wife's PC found the 'network' printer and her printer preferences had the color option listed. Reverted back to the USB version and the color option wasn't listed, so I'm keeping her printer connection as 'network'.

Still wondering, though, why the color option isn't available to her if my printer is USB connected.
