Windows 10: Many applications close/crash as soon as I open them

writing this on my phone.


as the title says, lots of applications I try to open including: chrome, word, firefox, and the search bar all close as soon as I try to open them. Trying to open it too many times will cause my laptop to crash saying kernel security check error.


not sure if this would help but the crashes started happening after I scrolled up too far on discord a few times causing it to crash. It may be a memory thing. Thanks

Applications crash and stop responding as soon as they're opened


Hello. I've had a problem with my Lenovo laptop since last week. Every time I try to open an application, excluding the default applications by Windows, they crash as soon as the app opens, and I get a "has stopped working" popup. I've erased potential viruses with Windows Defender, booted the computer in safe mode but the problem persists. I've also noticed that every once a powershell32 window randomly pops up on my taskbar.

I made an observation that I think is very weird. Apparently applications that are in the Program Files folder in C:/ seem to work without an issue, while the applications in the Program Files (x86) folder are the applications that crash after being opened.

• Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
• Is the issue specific to a particular game?

Since the game is crashing, the first thing I would suggest is to reinstall the game and then check if it helps. I would also request you to place the computer in clean boot and then check if it helps.

Putting your system inClean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform
a Clean Boot.
