  1. WHY SAVING OF CAPTURED IMAGE OF C DRIVE AS INSTALL.WIM TOOKS 58-MINUTES TO COMPLETE

Every two weeks once i take of capture image of C drive and I usually save in other partition say F drive .

I already created windows 10 PE by following window 10 deployment guides from docs.microsoft.com and I shared created iso links to windows users. using same windows 10 PE disk,

I booted with that disk, and I captured windows partition L:\ and I saved the image install.wim in H:\ drive

L:\ drive used 110GB windows partition and the saved image install.wim size is 62.8GB

with using the following advanced command with verbose log details

    DISM /Capture-Image /ImageFile:H:\install.wim /CaptureDir:L:\ /Name:Enterprise /logpath:H:\capture.log /loglevel:4 /compress:fast /checkIntegrity /EA

and the time taken to complete the operation is 58 minutes, i uploaded captured log file in onedrive, here is the link Here

  2. How to capture and install .wim file

If you boot with Windows 10 install media on USB or DVD, you can get a Command Prompt by using SHIFT-F10. Then use DISM to capture an image of your Windows partition. You should first create a "Scratch" folder for DISM to use. Often C:\Recycler\Scratch is
used, as \Recycler" is a standardized folder which will never be captured to a Windows image.

If your Windows volume is still on C: (sometimes drive lettering varies when booted from install media):

    DISM /Capture-Image /ImageFile:Install.wim /CaptureDir:C:\ /Name:"Windows 10" /Compress:max /CheckIntegrity /Verify /ScratchDir:C:\Recycler\Scratch

Use the applicable drive letter for your Windows partition, if it does not show up as drive C:. You can also add a Path to where you want to save your Install.wim or simply run the DISM command from that folder.

You can read about the DISM commands used by running DISM /Capture-Image /?

  3. WHAT'S THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN "Capture-CustomImage" and "Capture-Image" WHILE CAPTURING IMAGE USING DISM

    Hi.

/Capture-CustomImage only captures the customization files. It can’t be used to capture installation files into a new WIM.

    /Capture-Image

Captures an image of a drive to a new .wim file. Captured directories include all subfolders and data. You cannot capture an empty directory. A directory must contain at least one file.

    Info for customimage here:

TAKE BACKUP OF C:\USERS FOLDERS BY USING DISM CAPTURE IMAGE -IT WILL BE USEFUL AFTER REINSTALLING WINDOWS

hello windows users , today i am going to show taking backup of C:\users\ directory for future reference in form of .wim image , it will be usefull

when if you reinstalled windows or did clean installation after gets some problems

I use DISM.exe built in tool to capture users folders in form of .wim

    steps i followed it

i booted the windows in to recovery environment , then choosed troubleshoot-- advanced options-- command prompt -- choose the account --enter password --command prompt

    command prompt will display

    X:\windows\system32>

    type diskpart

    type list vol

find the windows partition , note the drive letter say D:

find the partition which atleast 5GB free space , note the drive letter say
    E:

    then type exit

command prompt will display like below

    X:\windows\system32>

then type the following command take capture image

    DISM.exe /Capture-Image /ImageFile:E:\usersfolder.wim /CaptureDirWHY SAVING OF CAPTURED IMAGE OF C DRIVE AS INSTALL.WIM TOOKS 58-MINUTES TO COMPLETE :D:\Users\ /Name:users /CheckIntegrity /EA

wait for few minutes to complete , its depends upon speed of the cpu and the datas available in C:\users folders

type exit , restart the windows , boot the windows as normal

find the file "usersfolder.wim" and see the size , don't the delete the file , it will be useful

in my college Hp proone AIO , the file "usersfolder.wim" saved in F drive and its size is 2.84GB

Please send feedback in this post ,
