  1. Unable to access the device which are connected through Network Sharing

    I am trying to set up a Windows 10 1809 small local network of several computers so that Authenticated Users can interchange files freely.

    Several older machines are all up to date with windows 10 1803 and they can interchange files using the usual sharing mechanism (and will be updated when Microsoft decides that their turn has come ;-).

    I have just added a new machine running a fresh download of 1809 (and updated) but it cannot see shares on other machines (though they can see the new machine).

    I have enabled SMBv1 client and server on the new machine to get things going.

    I understand the security issue here and want to do the 'Right Thing' in future.

    What should I do on the existing machines to allow me to remove the use of SMBv1 and use the recommended version (SMBv3?)? I presume that I will just turn off use of SMBv1 on the new machine.

    Thank you.

    Paul

    Connecting computer with no internet connection to network printer

    @dk1971
    1. Open Admin command and type: ipconfig

    2. Win+X->Control Panel->Netwok and Sharing Center
      Follow the screen shot. This should disable internet access from this PC but allows access to local device(s)
      NOTE: Use the IP & Subnet Mask from step 1. Leave Default gateway & DNS Server blank

    Cannot access shared network drive

    Personally, I wouldnt use Everyone. If anyone hacks into you, they have full access to everything and can demolish everything on your raid. I would rather set up accounts and access separately for each person. That way, I know who did all that damage. In the end with a little extra work, I feel more secure by using Authenticated Users.

    If this helps.
    step 1 create non-microsoft account and without email and address without admin rights
    step 2 share a drive or folder to specific user account (if Everyone is listed, remove it)
    step 3 set security > add Authenticated Users (if more than 1 account) or add specific users
    step 3a remove Everyone from list
    step 3b uncheck full control and write for all items listed except SYSTEM and Admin account.
    step 4 right click Start > Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares ... to verify settings and change anything else. You can also see the number of connections to each share here.
