  1. Windows automatically restarted (updates) corrupted my Ubuntu VM losing 4 days of code

I have Windows 10 Pro. I left my house this evening for a couple hours and upon return see Windows restarted. I had left a logged in user session with an Ubuntu virtual machine running that I was using to develop a feature change for the company I work for. Something about the process killed my VM and corrupted the image. I no longer have access to the uncommitted changes meaning I just lost about 4 days of code changes.

    This should NEVER HAPPEN.

Can someone from Microsoft check for running virtual machines from VMWare, VirtualBox and their own Hyper-V instances and NOT restart until it is shutdown? Or better yet, LET ME DECIDE WHEN TO RESTART THE SYSTEM.

I am utterly gobsmacked by this kind of behavior. Dumbfounded. Flabbergasted. Appalled. Incensed. By all measure of perception I am bamboozled.

    :)

    Vista Automatic Updating Error

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
