Windows 10: Computer Freezes & Restarts Itself Multiple Times a Day After Windows Update

KB4471324 is the update that seems to have failed. I'm not sure if the computer shut down, battery died, went to sleep etc. when the update was originally happening but it failed and continued to fail when it attempted to retry.


I found the update via the many hours of research I did in the Microsoft Help forums and it successfully installed it this time (made sure to watch it for every single second of the download / install process so I could make sure nothing interrupted it.


I uninstalled a lot of useless old programs, defragged the computer, ran CCleaner, checked for viruses both with Windows Defender and Avast, run the Windows Update Troubleshooter several times where it says it fixes a corrupt Database issue (several times) but the problem persists.










Something similar happened on my home laptop last year some time and I had to try and figure out how to remove the failed update before it would function properly but I can't seem to figure out what I did then. I thought I could restore the updates back to a certain point, but I can't seem to figure out where / how to do that either.


So...I guess my question is, what can I do to fix this / how do I get rid of this failed update / clean the computer up / prevent it from being corrupted or constantly attempting to retry the update that is now successfully installed?

  How did you upgraded to Windows 10 through Windows update or Windows 10 ISO?
  

Let’s try simple steps and check if this helps. Follow the below steps.

Method 1.

I suggest you to check the settings, if the automatic restart is set on the system.

• 
  Open file explorer and click on Computer on the top pane.
  
• 
  Click on System properties and click on
  Advanced system settings.
  
• 
  Now click on Advanced tab and click on
  Settings button on Startup and Recovery option.
  
• 
  Uncheck on Automatically restart.
  

If the issue still persist try the below methods.

Method 2.

I suggest you to boot the system in Clean boot state and check if the issue still persist.
Clean boot process will help you determine which third party program/app that is causing this issue. It could be some other application or programs, which runs on the computer at the background, leading to this issue. Please visit the below link

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows 10 malware

Uh, a few days ago (7/15), a lot of "important security updates" were put out on Windows Vista-8.1 that required multiple restarts to fully install. It surprised me too because updates usually don't require more than one restart. Anyway, GWX was one of the updates your computer grabbed but it was NOT the update requiring restarts. GWX never requires a restart.
