  1. Default Gateway and VPN's

This is kinda infuriating and funny so let me explain.

6 months ago i purchased VPN service and chose IKEV as my protocol of choice. I manually setup the connection with my VPN providers username and password. The connection would establish itself but each browser I used and each IP verification site I visited would show my actual ISP's IP, in other words I thought I was unprotected and stopped using IKEV.

Literally 15 minutes ago I had a remote session with a the VPN company, something I had done several times in the past, and they simply went into the ipv4 settings and ticked 'use default gateway on remote server' and BAM my IP was showing up correctly on all sites I tested.

please can someone explain to me A. what the heck happened and why was that the solution?
    B. why did not a single tech at the VPN provider come up with this solution in 6 months and multiple tickets?

    thanks!

    :)

  2. VPN settings: default gateway etc

Can anyone help to put this in layman's terms please, with step by step instructions? I'm not an IT professional, just a user trying to get my VPN to the office to work. Thanks.

    Vpn ( trusted Vpn)

    Hi everyone.
I am not an expert about Vpn and that's why I would like to know if someone could list me a few trusted Vpns, I would really appreciate any suggestion/ advice.

    Thanks.

  4. Default Gateway and VPN's

    VPN settings: default gateway etc

    Let me try for you:

First, open an elevated command prompt. Right-click on the start menu, and select "Command Prompt (Admin)" from the list.

Once in there, you need to cd to the folder which contains the VPN. This will be one of two places, if you selected "allow other users to use this connection" when creating the VPN, it will be in the %ProgramData% folder. If you did not select that option,
it will be in the %AppData% folder. So your next step after opening the elevated command prompt is to type one of these two commands:

    cd %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk

    or

    cd %AppData%\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk

Once you type the command and press enter, type:

    notepad rasphone.pbk

    and press enter.

Like the poster said, most of the items in here are self-descriptive, but if you're looking to deselect the option to use the remote gateway (which is what I was looking for when I came here - this option, enabled by default, tends to break internet access)
you need to locate this item:

    IpPrioritizeRemote

(you can press ctrl+f and search for it)

It will be set to 1 by default, change the 1 to a zero, save the file and close notepad.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike
