Windows 10: Windows lock screen: spotlight not working and appears grey on preview, can't pick a new...

Hello

I am super frustrated. I've been working on this since yesterday morning and still no solution.

I noticed by spotlight was displaying the same picture for a while. So I went to check and noticed an error in my lockscreen option.

I couldn't select any of the default one, they would appear grey with a little buffering spinning circle in the middle.

Also spotlight displays the same picture (but after messing up with the registry it's displaying a blank theme in the lock screen windows).


I read many articles here.

I tried removing the items in those folders previously mentioned.

I tried changing the items to a .bak extension.

I tried fixing it in the registry (deleted the whole lock screen folder from there actually)

I tried the sfc /scannow thing and one other command that I don't remember.

Safe mode has the same issue.


I tried everything mentioned and I am truly tired. But it has to be fixed and I can't stop being worried about it.


Any clues?


MSI gaming laptop here. Somebody talked about uninstalling the gaming related programs but I wouldn't go that far because everything else was a fail...

Windows 10 (not upgraded from 8 or anything).

Windows Spotlight on the lock screen

There are multiple causes on why you're encountering this issue. To further troubleshoot the issue, we suggest that you disable and re-enable Spotlight. Simply follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the desktop and open Personalize.
• Open Lock Screen tab.
• Under Background, switch from Windows Spotlight to a Picture or the Slideshow.
• Click OK and close the Window.
• Now Log off and log in.
• Navigate to Lock screen and enable Windows Spotlight again.

Windows Spotlight on Lock screen not working in Windows 10 Pro

Windows 10 Pro, Build 10586.318 (automatic updates enabled).

I have selected the Lock screen background to Windows Spotlight, but the preview shows a light grey background (with the current date over it), and it's not working.

(It has not worked ever, and I've set and switched to a different setting, then set it back to Spotlight numerous times).

Is there any way to get my lock screen to display those pretty spotlight images??
