Hideous virus - cannot remove - tried everything to avoid formatting drive...

Unfortunately I was attacked by a virus clicking on a false download button. it showed in the task manager as 'demonic' among many other names.

I ran Avast boot time scan, malware bytes, adaware, hitman pro and emisoft anti malware plus uninstalled and reinstalled all browsers but it only worked for a short while.

The virus prevents tabs from opening in chrome so all I get is a blank page. Also, I can open firefox but it will not open gmail for me. It keeps signing me out of my email. Can you help me? Will I have to format the drive to get rid of this?

I'm using Windows 10 - the free upgrade version

    Thanks in advance

    :)

  2. remove a virus

    1) Do steps 1, 2 and 5 in this multi-step removal guide:
    https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-potentially-unwanted-program/

    2) Do not download anything from the link (pcrisk) which another user previously posted. It's one of those SpyHunter pushing sites. SpyHunter is a commercial program which is absolutely not recommended here in Microsoft Community.

    3) Suggestion to read:

How To Format A Write Protected Flash Memory ?

    ¿You already tried this one?...

    Run CMD

    1. diskpart
    2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

    2. select disk #
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

    good luck!

Hideous virus - cannot remove - tried everything to avoid formatting drive...

    Help me removing this virus!!!!

    Hi.

Yesterday my brother in law ask me to format his machine, It has XP. His PC was infected with the virus (or worm) AMVO.EXE, I'm not awared of that and when I plug my USB into his computer my memory got infected too......infecting my main rig later. The virus itself It's not dangerous (just don't let unhidde files via menus, need to open MS-DOS console and change file atrubutes).

This virus I was able to remove It with a script downloaded from MYGEEKS.COM 'cause any antivirus succes on remove it completely, but like a month ago a friend of mine got the same prob but MUCH more annoying 'cause when I tried to use the script the system suddenly restarted, when I tried to enter into the MS-DOS Console the system restarted and when I tried to search any info about the virus (via google, don't tried It with a different search engine) the system restarted....VERY,VERY,VERY ANNOYING.

That time I thought It was another virus, formated the PC and the virus was gone, but yesterday the same thing happened and my PC was not in the "formated" list. I wanna know if there's a way to remove it without formating or It's another virus/worm that It's causing the issue.

AND more important, I'm against using anti-virus, but I'm used to run ZoneAlarm or Bit Defender......are they good antivirus or what do you guys think is the BEST of the BEST antivirus available today????????
    Many thanks for reading.
