Windows 10: 024-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64- Systems - crashes the machine...

I am usually prompt about updating my Thinkpad when Microsoft issues a upgrade - a new upgrade 2024-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems KB5035853 - was kind of.... installed and the laptop just went south....my machine has been working flawlessly since I got it.- It would not load the system - providing a screen that told me I needed to get the Rescue codes for my TP Huh.....never heard of that before -- I was able to obtain the Rescue codes and after two or three times doing the process yes.....it takes a while I was finally able to get my machine r

Why would an in-place Upgrade solve this problem? I did all the steps listed here but not the in-place update. The error I see in the Windows update window is "Download error - 0x8024401c" for 2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5023706). Its been logging this error since 3/17/2023

Note that on 2/15 everything seemed fine:

Successfully Installed on 2/15/2023

2023-02 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5022497)
