Hi. Good luck with the application! *Smile

As I said earlier in the thread, the Asmedia ports have always been problematic. (Struggle to boot ANYTHING non-Windows, CSM or EFI - examples are Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Parted Magic).

I'm off out for a while but I will try work out which storage devices are connected to which ports to answer to answer your very valid question.

There are Asmedia SATA ports and Asmedia USB ports but I have a non-Asmedia PCI-e card with USB 3.0 / SATA 6gbps functionality - so may be able to jig around to avoid them altogether. It's a cracking mainboard and have years of fun and learning ahead, I'm sure. R4BE | ROG - Republic of Gamers Global

My manual linked below if you want to nosey at the ports available

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...ck_Edition.pdf

The X79 chipset has "signal timing variations" with PCI-e Rev 3.0 but issues have historically persisted regardless of 1) Forcing Gen 3 on GPU and/or 2) Setting of PCI-e link speed in "BIOS"

Hi! I've had the same hardware for several years, have done fresh installs of Windows 10 Pro (Retail), have tried my RAM at SPD , XMP 1, XMP 2 , HPET ON, HPET OFF. GPU at stock, slight overclock on GPU. All latest drivers, no AV on system etc yet my problems persist.

memtest+ passes all day long, Prime 95, OCCT etc can be run all day long with no issues.

Seems to be no pattern I can discern to BSODs (When I say BSOD the screen freezes, no mouse activity, clock frozen). Seemingly no HDD activity as no LED activity BUT noticed tonight that after leaving the PC in it's frozen state for 12 minutes before pressing the reset button . . . I had a 25GB dump file. I have 64GB RAM , perhaps Nirsoft BlueScreenView is only seeing half a dump?

I am absolutely at my wits end and out of ideas. Please help! 0x0000003b BSOD - I'm out of ideas! :)

    :)

    Hi hdd23,

When did you purchase the hardware?

Try booting in safe mode and see if the problem still persist, if it does it's definitely a hardware issue.

Standard settings are that Windows will only use the kernel mode memory for the crash dumps, if 64GB dumps would be created there would be no room for user mode data and there would be a severe memory leak crashing your system from something else.

    Hi axe0

    Thanks for the reply

All the hardware (as listed on my profile) is out of warranty.

Safe Mode - good shout but unfortunately I have no reliable way of recreating the fault! I will try using in Safe Mode with Networking though to test.

Are my logs showing anything meaningful, please?

I understood it was out of warranty, it's usually too expensive to extend any warranty (if possible) after several years *Wink
    How old is the hardware?

How so? If you can use an alternative for whatever you're usually doing on the pc you can leave the pc for some time.

    0x0000003b BSOD - I'm out of ideas!

    Hi

The mainboard is perhaps 4 years old, as is the RAM and CPU. Brand new 960 Pro. Tried enabling Driver Verifier and I got a BSOD on reboot! 0x0000003b BSOD - I'm out of ideas! :) Edited to attach logs

What USB devices are connected outside of the keyboard and mouse?

XBOX Controller, wired laser mouse as well as 2 x dongles for Logitech K750 wireless keyboard and Logitech G700S wireless mouse.

    Funny you should mention that.

On my X79 mobo, I have never been able to successfully boot into anything non-Windows e.g. Linux Mint / Ubuntu. The boot sequence always gets stuck in a loop trying to enumerate the Asmedia USB controller . . . .

I mentioned it, because the dump mentions a chipset USB filter driver, an XBOX driver and a driver of Citrix.

  12. hdd23 Win User
The Citrix driver is purely to facilitate secure access to work-related content. Issues as described pre-date its installation, same for the Xbox Controller Pad driver.

I know my RAM on the GPU is Elpida and not Samsung and that a gentle overclock could have precipitated a fault BUT my gut feeling has always been that the Asmedia chipset is somehow not cutting the X79/W10 mustard if you get me?

If the fault is USB chipset related, this would explain the somewhat arbitrary nature of the freezes / BSODs across reinstalls of a clean OS plus the fact that no stress test can precipitate the symptoms.

However, 0x0000003b BSOD - I'm out of ideas! :) On my old LGA 775 mobo, with ye olde bulletproof Q6600, both at stock and stable OC - games such as Need For Speed would kick me up with a DXDIAG Hang related driver message when things got "funky / out of the AI norm" on screen. By that I mean if I took a corner with a bit too much unintentional drift and more "stuff" had to be rendered on screen - the probability of such a crash would be all the more. But it would NOT BSOD or crash the OS on either Windows 7 or 10 . . . . ( as it does on my current hardware )

What's your advice on troubleshooting this further? You mentioned Safe Mode but I've been working from home in normal Full Boot Mode (i.e. not Safe Mode) since 06:00 and the PC has not skipped a beat!

Would you suggest that the Driver Verifier repeatable BSOD is worth pursuing? I followed the instructions as in all but non-Microsoft stuff. Think I should remove ticks from other manufacturers/functions to see which one is spoiling the broth?

    0x0000003b BSOD - I'm out of ideas!

I noticed your BIOS version is a beta, is there a particular reason why a beta version is installed?

Just looked at the motherboard specs and noticed the ASUS USB filter driver is likely a part of AI Suite, did you got any BSOD before or after installing the AI Suite?

  14. hdd23 Win User
Hi. Thanks for your continued support. The custom BIOS was purely to support my Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe Solid State Drive/SSD MZ-V6P512BW 512GB Samsung 960 Pro, M.2 PCIe NVMe, in UEFI boot as this is not natively supported on X79. But the issues occurred well before this.

I only installed AI suite for setting the fan profile, I've heard that even after uninstalling AI folk sometimes have to reflash the BIOS as some settings in the CMOS remain. Not sure if that's definitive?

Would you like me to uninstall it? I honestly can't remember if the issues coincide with AI Suite being installed or not. (Apologies)

Interestingly, I've just noticed that at RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION Driver & Tools | Motherboards | ASUS Global
neither ROG RAM Disk or AI Suite (Both currently installed) are available for Windows 10 so I must have chosen Windows 8.1 in order to download. Is this maybe a simple case of incompatibility between these 2 and W10? Perhaps the "not booting anything non-Windows" is a separate issue?

Never looked into AI Suite outside of a few BSODs it caused in the past, so I can't say anything about it. But please uninstall it, 1 program fewer to cause issues.

Not per se, there's a reason why programs can be run using different compatibility settings *Wink
