Windows 10: 0x000000BE an attempt was made to write to read only memory

Some back story, I built this machine 2 weeks ago, once i got it going it was fine. I had some issues with the memory, i was getting blue screens with memory management stop codes, long story short i swapped the ram from 2/4 to 1/3 and those have stopped. Now im getting a new blue screen, 0x000000BE an attempt was made to write to read only memory. Its happened twice today, below are the event viewers from both.

Write to read only memory


I have had two BSODs this morning, the first was PFN list corrupt closely followed by Write to read only memory.

This is a clean install of Windows 10, I thought it might cure the BSODs but no such luck. So glad to find this forum.

How To Format A Write Protected Flash Memory ?

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

BSOD: Attempt to write to read only memory (VHDMP.SYS) during Windos Backup

Since yesterday I have been failing to backup the HDD image on an external hard drive. At every attempt the system crashed when the process was about 95% done. The BSOD says that I attempted to write to read only memory and points at the VHDMP.SYS file (whatever
it is). I have googled the problem and I can see that a few other people also experienced it, but all of those threads lack a solution. Please help me.
