0x80070057 when trimming video on external hard drive

Recently I moved my video clipping software folder to my external hard drive, but now I can't trim the videos anymore, it just says the error code 0x80070057. I've already tried repairing and resetting the movie and tv app, clipchamp, and photos app, none of them did anything. Prior to moving the folder to the external hard drive I could just open the video using movies and tv then click on trim, now both old videos and new videos clipped after moving are unable to be edited through the trim option, but doing it in clipchamp still works, any fixes?

    :)

Windows native photo/video viewer (Microsoft Photos/Movies & TV) does gives error (0x80070057) when trying to trim or otherwise edit videos on external hard drive.

This is an expanded question based on a previous post that was never adequately answered, with similar questions frequently asked. I would have replied there, but the thread was locked.

Similarly to the linked post, I was attempting to use the trim feature found in the Microsoft photos and video applications to cut out unnecessary parts of a video. The video was stored on an external hard drive, along with other photos and videos to avoid filling up the internal hard drive memory on the computer. When I attempted to trim the video I received the following error message:

    "Photos

    0x80070057"

I've tried to include a screenshot of the error but it doesn't seem to be going through.

I reset and repaired the Microsoft Photos and Movies & TV apps from the advanced settings on each app in the applications menu. Then tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Photos using admin console of Windows Powershell (based on instructions here). Neither of these methods were successful. On a whim after reading through the initial post I linked, I tried moving a video from the external hard drive to my desktop and the trim command was able to function. My question here is why does the app not work for files on an external hard drive? Editing photos there works fine, videos are the only issue. There is no reason I should need to move GBs worth of video files over to my laptop's hard drive just to be able to use a basic function of a built in application. It seems like this may be an ongoing problem from searching community forums, and is worth addressing.

System Information (only the basics listed here, if necessary I will provide more information):

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 5593 (from 2019) running Windows 10 Home build 19045.2604

External Hard drive with photos and videos: Seagate OneTouch 2TB portable HDD

As a final note, I want to stress that I have outlined the steps I have taken to address the issue thus far above. I do not mean to be rude, but please do not respond with a suggestion to do something that I've described above or was in either of the linked posts. That is not contributing to solving the problem.

  3. Any way I can get windows photos app's video trimming function to work on my external hard drive?

I have an external hard drive connected to my laptop that I store footage on, that would be incredibly convenient for me to trim individual ones with windows photo trimmer before I compile them, without needing to leave space on my main laptop SSD drive to transfer and trim.

If I try using the trim function on a video that is on my D: external hard drive, it slaps me with a 0x80070057

Please try again. If the problem continues, visit https://support.microsoft.com to check for guidance.

Any way I can get the trim function to work on my external hard drive? and the latter option which is less desirable if theres any other software that is as efficient and fast as trimming with windows photo viewer
