    Error 0x8100001a - Backup/Restore (Win7)

I had to do a new reinstall of Windows 10 and received this error when trying to restore from my external backup drive.

Originally the backup drive was G, but after the reinstall, it became H. I changed it back to G in Disk Management, and applied the SDUTIL with no errors (Windows 7 Backup Recovery Error 0x8100001a - Microsoft Community).

I still get this error message.

    Any ideas?

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond 0x8100001A the restore did not complete successfuly :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

Error 0x8100001a Windows 7 Backup Recovery Using Win 10

    Hi,

The error code 0x8100001a usually occurs when Mediaid.bin file is damaged or missing. The Mediaid.bin file may be damaged or missing if the backup directory was suddenly moved to another location. To address this concern we suggest running the
System File Checker tool. It is a utility that allows users to scan for corruptions
in Windows system and restore corrupted files. The link contains further information about how to run the System File Checker tool.

If the same issue persists, running the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool is recommended. This tool will automatically repair the components of your Windows operating system and records the corruptions to the log file.

To run the DISM tool, follow these steps:

    • Press Windows key+ X, and then click on Command Prompt (Admin). If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Yes.
    • In the Command Prompt window, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, then hit Enter.
    • Once the scan is finished, restart your computer.

Note: While running the DISM tool on your computer, if any bad sectors are found on the system, data loss might occur. We suggest that you backup your files before running DISM.

    Update us with the results.
