Windows 10: 0xc00000e Error while installing cloned drive

I have upgraded my nvme 500gb drive to a 2tb drive on a hp laptop. I am getting the 0xc00000e error.I have googled this for days now. I have cloned my drive twice. My old drive and Windows had no issues whatsoever. I have followed every official MS tutorial I can find. They all end with “And now it works” but no, it doesn’t. After the Bios changes, is there any particular step to redo? Or don't it have any influence?

I have a really frustrating problem and need help.

It started monday morning (it's thursday evening now) when booting my computer.

I got the error message:

"MBR Error 1"

After consulting Gigabyte (the maker of my motherboard), I reset CMOS and changed the battery, just to be sure.

It got rid of the "MBR Error 1" message.

But then I got this error:

Somehow the drive letters had gotten mixed, as drive C:\ was suddenly another drive. I unplugged all drives from the motherboard, except my primary drive, only containing the most important programs and Windows 10, still got error code 0xc00000e. Reconnected
my DVD-drive to run the Windows 10 media and tried to repair the installation. It failed.

I retried the bootrec commands and finally it recognized my Windows installation (bootrec /scanos).

But when I tried bootrec /rebuildbcd, I got the following message:

Scanning all discs for Windows Installations.

Please wait, sincde this may take a while...

Succesfully scanned Windows Installations.

Total identified Windows installations: 1

[1] c:\windows

Add installations to boot list? Yes No All - A

The requested system unit was not found (my translation)

The commands "bootrec /fixmbr" and "bootrec /fixboot" are both successfull.

But I still have the 0xc00000e error.

There has been no hardware upgrades, and the only software I believe was a Windows upgrade on sunday or earlier.

Do any have a solution, that doesn't involve a reinstall, as there are files and codes I need.

 

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

I kinda agree with you, but on a wholr, do not. While I have done things a bit differently than this specific situation, by installing Windows directly to the SSD, and cloning after, my testing shows that there are no issues doing this, very little that can go wrong, provided your system is stable.

There are certain features that must be disabled in this situation, like auto defrag and such, but even with a fresh install to the SSD, you need to take steps to ensure that you SSD performs properly, regardless of how the data got there.

Arming yourself with a bit of knowledge can go a long way.

Installing the latest chipset driver, and the RST Tools, will ensure optimal performance of the SSD. but rather than taking my advice, I suggest the OP takes a look here:

Keep in mind, also, Digibucc, that many retail drives include software and such that very specifically is to be used to ttranser the OS from an existing mechanical drive to an SSD, and if there really was alot fo issues stemming from the cloning process, they would not have packages like that, simply to eliminate tech support costs. While not the optimal option, cloning is NOT a bad thing, as long as you take the nessecary steps.
