  2. Windows 10 Only Utilizing 3GB of RAM?

My Lenovo ThinkPad T420 came refurbished with 4GB of RAM and Windows 10 Home 32-bit pre-installed. However, I'm already experiencing memory issues.

Windows presented me with a "Low Memory" dialog box, although the only applications open were Microsoft Edge and Outlook. When I opened the Task Manager, I noticed that Windows 10 was only allowed to access 2.9GB of the 4GB of RAM, leaving 1.1GB as inaccessible.

How can I fix this, and allow Windows and my programs to access the full 4GB of RAM? I plan on upgrading the machine to the full 8GB of RAM, so will it be able to access the full 8GB of just 2.9GB?

Edit: In the Task Manager, it claims that Windows has the 1.1GB of RAM reserved for hardware use. What does this mean?

    E71 "memory full" error message

"Memory full" is a RAM issue. You've enough space on your memory card. Clean out messages, browser cache, etc....

When more RAM space needed those cached memory space are used.

You can always disable Superfetch which is a Windows feature that will improves system performance over time.

SuperFetch decreases boot time, and makes sure applications that you use the most launch faster.

The Cache filled by SuperFetch and the standard caching mechanism runs on a lower priority; in other words, memory requests by applications will always supersede SuperFetch.

In other words, whatever you see in the "Cached" figure is actually accessible to applications.

You can disable SuperFetch service by opening the Command Prompt as administrator. To open Command Prompt type cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.

    Execute following command:

Code: Sc config SysMain start= disabled Sc stop SysMain[/quote] You may have to restart your computer to clear the cached.

In itself a high value for cached does not indicate a problem. Usually this is a good thing. At present I have 8175 MB total memory with 5570 MB cached which is good and as it should be. Only in some unusual cases would this be a problem. We really need to see a screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab, showing the memory information. A few numbers in isolation mean very little.

If you really do have a problem it is unlikely that disabling superfetch will solve it.
