1 second image freeze exactly every minute

    Hi everyone *Smile
I have a problem with Windows 10 on my laptop. At the start of every new minute (e.g. 21:40:00) the image freezes for a second or two (the audio still runs fine). It doesn't matter how busy my laptop currently is, whether I'm playing a game, watching a video or just moving a folder - the lag is always about the same time span. So my guess is that it's some automatically executed task, especially since it's always at a such specific time.
I've had a look at the processes in the task manager, but couldn't find anything notable there. I also had a look at the
"Performance" section in the task manager but couldn't find any change either. And after I couldn't find anything helpful with google as well I'm at a loss right now.

Any ideas? Can anyone push me in the right direction, what to look for next or how to find the program/service/whatever that's responsible? Or has someone heard of this problem before?

    a few additional remarks:
    - My GPU driver is up-to-date
    - Everything was fine with Windows 7 (so probably not a hardware problem)
    - I had this problem pretty much after switching to Windows 10, so it's probably not a 3rd party program's fault
    - I already tried turning off my Antivirus (Avast)
    - For some reason, the mouse cursor is unaffected by the freeze. So if I move my cursor around at the beginning of a minute, everything on the screen freezes for a second, except for the cursor

Thanks for any help in advance *Smile

    :)

Build 14393: Freeze for 1 second every few minutes

I can rule out any Internet issues because when I do the exact same things on a different system with identical specs and running the same build, there's no sign of the issue. That also rules out my router.

I saw that someone marked this as an answer. I have unmarked it. Please NEVER mark a canned response that includes the phrase "clean boot" as an answer, as that never solves anything.

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

If you wish, download: Process Lasso
and search for a portable version (No installation needed) and run. Right click on the bottom windows to clear the log and monitor which process causing it. Take a note of the time stamp and the path of the running process.

Ok so I downloaded Process Lasso and launched it right after the booting up my laptop. I've got a few Actions from several processes, but none of them were at the same time as the image freezes (at :59, :00 or :01). I mean there were 3 or 4 actions at the time of the freeze, but they were never consistently every minute, so it's just coincidental. Besides, at some points I had no process action for several minutes despite having those freezes every minute. Thanks for the tip though topgundcp *Wink

It still happens after a clean boot.
I tried out the Windows Safe Mode this afternoon and for the first time the freezes didn't occur anymore. I did some tests and narrowed it down to the GPU driver. I tried out the automatically installed driver version by Windows 10 (341.92), the latest version on the Nvidia website (341.95) and an older version (341.81), but in all the 3 cases the problem still occured. I think I'm going to ask the Nvidia support or someone in some Nvidia help forum and update this thread when I have found a solution. But if someone on this forum has an idea as well I'm always welcome for help *Smile

btw I also did some tests in terms of the scheduling of the freezes. Turns out they always happen at :00 and always every 60 seconds. That means when for example I turn the clock back from 21:40:40 to 21:40:30, a freeze will happen at 21:40:50 (because the last freeze will have been 60 seconds ago at 21:40:00) and at 21:41:00 (because it's the start of a new minute) - don't know if that information is helpful in any way. Also, my GPU is the Nividia GeForce 320M.

Yep that's a helpful sequence for elimination.. good. But so peculiar an effect...
As you know, your graphics driver isn't loaded in Safe Mode.

What you might like to try is your Acer forum rather than Nvidia's, and do some searches on your particular laptop model. Could you add that to your specs please? Could be sthg specific to what's adapted to your laptop vs Win 10..

Is your laptop listed as compatible with Win 10 by Acer?

Sometimes if security and/or monitoring software is set a little too assertively, halts, pauses, freezes - short ones mostly - can happen.

But presumably that was not running after the clean boot... Ninkyu.. can you confirm?

What you could try- and a clean boot could make it easier- is use Sysinternals Procmon which will capture all events.

Since you know when to expect the event, this will help you to scan the list.

Note- it can be very long, so you want as little as possible activity to make it easier.

    Hi everyone!
At last in three month using Windows 10 I have found someone with the same issue that I have.
Problem started after upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Problem was noticed in maybe a week, so tiny freezes are. But, as above said, freezes are regular, each minute.
Also tried to identify problem using different proccess managers, tried different video drivers, clean boot, no luck.
The difference that I have is that cursor also freezes for a second or less each minute.
My laptop is Acer Travelmate with Nvidia 420m on it. Probably will search on Acer forums more.
    Still looking for a solution.

Hi, Both Acer's... unfortunately we don't know Ninkyu's model.
Suggest a capture using Procmon - post #8.
You can look thru the report at your leisure..

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't have my notebook with me with weekend

On their website it says the Aspire V3-574G series is compatible with Win 10 and I have an Aspire 5741G (I don't know if it's part of that series though)

Thanks for the tip! There was only one process (aside from my antivirus) that showed up at the expected times, and that was svchost.exe. I had a look at the additional info of the events and from what I can tell (or guess) they look strangely suspicious. I haven't figured out yet if this device 0x14 is my GPU, but if it is the "Buffer too small" could probably refer to the framebuffer, and the freeze could be the result of the driver not being able to put the new image data in the buffer for about a second. But that's all just an assumption *Smile

    The events:

Thanks, unfortunately that doesn't obviously point anywhere.

As it doesn't happen in Safe Mode, it's most likely as said before a driver issue.
You can try an older version of the graphics driver, for example.

I already tried 3 versions (see post #5), plus I also just tried the 341.74 version, but it didn't work as well
