  1. 10 gig ethernet transfers lock up my system - why?

Hi, I recently installed a 10 gigabit ethernet network in my office (10GBaseT copper cabling). I have three identical Intel X550-T2 host adapters: one in my router, one in my server, and one in my workstation, plus identical Netgear 10G switches. My server RAID tops out at 350 MB/s and I'm happy with that. However, my workstation becomes extremely unresponsive during large file transfers at that speed. I back up my server daily to my workstation, and I basically can't use my workstation for the 15-20 minutes that I'm doing the daily transfer. The server (running RHEL 6) continues to perform with no issues. Is my workstation problem a driver issue, or something else? I ask because my workstation has an internal RAID that tops out around 980 MB/s and I seem to have no problems while using it at that speed. This is a custom workstation with a 12-core 3.0 GHz Intel Xeon and lots of RAM, so I'm guessing it has to do with the Windows 10 networking drivers. But please let me know if something else could be causing this.

    :)

  3. 10 gig ethernet transfers lock up my system - why?

    Hi Andrew,

Let's try to narrow this down...go to this support article and perform a clean boot of your system:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/929135...

The reason we want to try this is to see if a service or process is hanging up this data transfer.

I would also suggest disabling Windows Defender for a brief period to see if this is possibly getting in the way as it checks all these files as they are pushed on to your workstation. Follow this article:

    PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??
