Windows 10: 100% Disk Activity - Completely Frozen PC

I know this is a vague post but this is driving be crazy and looking for professional opinion.

Intermittently my PC will freeze and my C drive will be at 100 % indefinitely. I can't do anything but move the mouse around. This has happened 5 or so times, and if I power down, it will not restart without re-imaging the drive from a backup.

Samsung 850 250gb SSD inside, and I've tried all the tricks. I'm on Windows 1904. Any guidance is appreciated.

Windows 10 Freezes; SSD's transfer rate goes to 100%

Hi,

I am experiencing the same exact problem.

• Dell Latitude E5520
• Windows 10 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.953)
• Seagate Momentus XT 500GB (Booting Drive, Disk 0, based on combination 4GB SSD and the rest is HDD).
  • The last few months it was freezing briefly (within a minute or so) and then unfreezes. All activities that do not need to access the drive can be done normally while frozen up to some point.
• Crucial MX300 SSD 525GB Booting Drive (Disk 0), recently bought to replace the above 'aging' Seagate.
  • Freeze after a few operations and remains frozen until Power Recycled.
    
  • Disk Active Time spikes to 100% while Disk Transfer Rate is 0 or minimal.
  • All activities that do not need to access the drive can be done normally while frozen up to some point.

• I have not tried replacing the Microsoft generic SATA driver yet.

Hope the above helps pin-pointing the issues. I would greatly appreciate assistance in how to replace the SATA driver, if there is no cure from Microsoft yet.

Applied KB4015438. Same issue:

• Freeze after a few operations and remains frozen until Power Recycled.
• Disk Active Time spikes to 100% while Disk Transfer Rate is 0 or minimal.
• All activities that do not need to access the drive can be done normally while frozen up to some point.

Applied KB4016635. Issue persists:

• Freeze after a few operations and remains frozen until Power Recycled.
• Disk Active Time spikes to 100% while Disk Transfer Rate is 0 or minimal.

Replaced Microsoft Generic SATA Driver to OEM (Intel) Driver. System has been stable since 03/26/2017 15:10.

 

Clean install, disk usage at 100%

I've seen that article. and I am in fact not running that driver. I followed the steps and it does not appear in the list.

 

Outlook is completely frozen

I recently upgraded to Windows 10. Apparently, you no longer have an option to not automatically install updates. So it installed updates this morning, and ever since then, the Outlook is completely frozen. I go into it and it has new emails, but I can't
click them, I can't scroll through my list, or anything. I have restarted my computer but it doesn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?
