  1. 100% Disk Usage + CD/DVD Disk Boot Failure on Windows 10

Recently I’ve been having issues with my disk and computer over all. Starting a couple days ago, I began having occasional trouble booting my computer. It would go through the brief BIOS/CMOS screen stuff about IDE Channel masters and slaves which I’m not familiar with as usual, ending with “Verifying DMI Pool Data...” However, this is where things differ. Sometimes, it will go straight to Windows lock screen as usual, but other times it would say, right underneath the dmi pool line, “Boot from CD/DVD : DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER”. Usually when it does this, I can power off my computer then turn it back on a couple times until it goes through smoothly, but other times I don’t have the time to do this.

On another note, I’ve been having unsolvable issues with seeing 100% disk usage in task manager as soon as I start my PC, as well as frequent crashes, “windows ran into a problem”, and EXTREMELY painful and slow processes. Like with the other issue, this only happens sometimes and the severity of the slowness varies. I’ve tried restarting my computer, running diagnostics, stopping windows search/superfetch, and updating my computer; all to no avail.

I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas on what may be the root cause of this issue or how to solve both of them. My hunch is that they’re related since they both deal directly with disc usage and reading. Thanks!

    :)

    disk boot failure

my hard drive died recently, and i ordered a new one. this new drive is a western digital se16 500gb. i need to format this drive, but when i try to boot from cd in post, there is a disk boot failure message: disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter. i have the XP cd in the drive, yet it will not recognize it. if you continue to press enter, the same message appears over and over again. could it be a defective HDD? would jumpers have anything to do with this?

  3. 100% disk usage

The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.

This article provides steps to disable prefecth and superfetch:

100% Disk Usage + CD/DVD Disk Boot Failure on Windows 10

CD/DVD drive does not read any disks, but will allow boot from disk.

The CD/DVD drive does not function at all for any other media (program, video or audio). It only functions when I do a boot from disk with the Windows 7 disk.
