    100 Disk Usage Error followed by Black Screen


    I have an ASUS laptop from 2016 Q553U Notebook. Few days ago, performance dropped drastically. Looking at Task Manager, it said disk usage was at 100 percent. I went into regedit and changed a data value from 1 to 0 based on instructions I found online for dealing with what looked like a similar problem. After reboot, it seemed to work initially, but then froze up after running a few tasks. Rebooted again, and since then, all I get is a black screen with a cursor directly after the screen with the ASUS logo. Ctrl+Alt+Del, Win+P, and Win+R don't appear to do anything. Plugging in a second monitor just duplicates the image. Eventually it'll go to sleep, and when i wake it up, i get a black screen but with no cursor.

    100% disk usage

    The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.

    100% disk usage and memory usage can be caused by a software corruption, running application running on the background and malware or virus infection.

    For us to properly isolate the issue and provide an appropriate resolution, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Did the issue happen after installing the Fall Creators?
    • Did you receive any error messages?
    • Can you send us the screenshot of the Task Manager showing the 100% disk usage and memory usage?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
