Windows 10: 100% disk use or cpu use after factory reset and a new hdd.

I have been having problems with my hp envy x360 for quite a while now with 100% disk usage. I have tried everything that I have seen on all of the forums. I decided to try a new HDD and now most of the time it is fine with random spikes all of the time. Does anyone know how to fix this. TIA

CPU Usage 100% after HDD format

I went on a download-frenzy and thought that I might've picked up a virus.. my computer had a bunch of useless crap on it anyways so I decided to just format the HDD. (reset to factory settings). I found out that formatting the HDD doesn't always remove every
type of virus, but like I said, the HDD needed a cleaning anyways.

So after I formatted the HDD and reinstalled the win10 OS, I decided that my first order of business was downloading a game that wasn't running so great before the factory reset.. to my surprise, it was still running like sh*t!! Despite the factory reset and
having more than the required specs.

**I opened up task manager to check processes and noticed CPU usage was at 100%.. Memory usage was above 30%, and disk usage was 100% (and fluctuating).

Did extensive research to find out that it was most likely a driver issue? .. apparently Microsoft isn't always the best at choosing drivers? .. idk how it works, and frankly Idc.. I just want my computer to run the games I want.

I went to device manager and disabled a Network Adapter (WiFi Adapter), and that made a noticeable difference to the CPU. (idling at around 14-16%). When I enabled it, the CPU spiked to 100% again. Could be one of the culprits?

Also, there was 64 Background Processes and 28 Windows processes before I even had the chance to touch anything after the OS reinstall.. is that normal?

Suggestions/opinions?

 

100% disk usage.

Summer has ended and my girlfriend booted her school laptop for the first time in months, only for it to be so unbearably slow that it took several minutes to log in. She handed it to me and said "fix it"... that was 3 days ago and now I am here to humbly
ask the community what is going on with this GD laptop.

It boots and task manager reports 100%CPU usage, it then lags for several seconds and displays 100%disk usage with CPU usage bouncing between 30-60%.

If you leave it alone with task manager running it will eventually quiet down to a reasonable 0-5% disk usage, but doing ANYTHING causes it to bounce right back to 100%.

I have tried EVERYTHING.

• disable superfetch.
• disable microsoft search.
• disable updates and suggestive tips.
• updated to the most current version of microsoft. (it hadn't been updated since 2018 when she bought it.)
• reconfigured AHCI PCIE.
• changed energy options.
• disabled indexing.
• reset the virtual memory.
• ran disk defragment and disabled all scheduling.
• updated all drivers.
• deleted google chrome.
• Disabled all services that weren't microsoft services and disabled all startup programs (clean boot).

Still no change in the disk usage.

Its an HP Laptop model 15-bw0xx with Windows 10 home edition version 10.0.18362

after messing with it this long im considering replacing the HDD with an SSD but I fear that it wont fix the issue.

 

Windows 10 100% disk usage even after factory reset

Hi,

Software is what was installed from factory reset image file. I've uninstalled McAfee

Here's the screenshot of the task manager. Disk is at 100% when it's not even that active.. this system is:

RAM: 12gb

CPU: Intel core I7 - 6500U

2.5 ghz

2tb hard drive

I'm thinking the disk usage should be nowhere near 100% with only around 5mb being processed.
