10130 - Run as Administrator not working for Command Prompt

I pinned Command Prompt to the Taskbar then changed the properties to always Run as Administrator.
Setting took but is not obeyed:

10130 - Run as Administrator not working for Command Prompt [IMG]

When I click on the icon in the Taskbar I get:

10130 - Run as Administrator not working for Command Prompt [IMG]

What I should get is this:

10130 - Run as Administrator not working for Command Prompt [IMG]

This worked in previous builds including 10122.

    :)

Can't run command prompt as administrator windows 10 build 10 15063

    I guess that should work.

I also found out that when I open any desktop application, it does not open, I have to right click the .exe file run as administrator to run the file.

    how to solve this?

This has something to do with new start menu. It seems that the new start menu creates its own shortcut copies, so when you update the shortcut in the normal location, it's not updating the shortcut that the shell is using.

if you unpin the command prompt from the taskbar, then go into start->all apps->Windows System->Command Prompt and right click on that, then choose Open File location, then make sure the Start as Administrator is set on the link in the new folder that opens.. Then right click on that link and choose add to taskbar, then it correctly opens as administrator.

  5. Taskbar pinned itmes are stroed in

    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

I pinned Cmd from All Apps and tried to change the property page, but all I got was open - no other choices on the context menu. But that's my system - I just spent too many hours trying to get access to the Start menu. Turns out that toggling all start settings unfroze it - or the previous attempts with just about every tool melted it a bit and the toggling jarred it free.

Anyway, I was able to change the property page on the shortcut for Cmd on the taskbar in the folder above and it worked fine.

Have you tried creating a shortcut and putting %windir%\system32\cmd.exe in the target field?
Then change the run as admin option and pin that to the taskbar - that will show whether it's an issue as Mystere described or a more global issue. You'll have to unpin the first Cmd shortcut first.

Start, after Win7, has always had some special features.

MS is still playing with stuff when they should be fixing problems. If you right click on Command Prompt on the Taskbar then right click on Command Prompt in the popup window, you get what looks like a single choice which is Open. Actually there is a little scroll bar on the right you can click on to move the window up, that way you can get to Run as Administrator and Properties.

Very dumb design, I hope they get rid of it ASAP and go back to the way it's always worked.

Apologize Ztruker if not expected but
why not just use Command Prompt (Admin) from the Win X power menu?

    Habit more than anything.

Mystere, that works, thanks - yet another band-aid.

These are the kind of things MS should be focusing on, not continuing to break change what currently works.

  9. Thanks, yeah I saw that tiny tiny dropdown box after my previous post. I agree, it's not useful if you can't see it.

I think another part of it might be that Command is 'updated'. I recently noticed the thin border on the left and the unfinished scroll bar on the right. It just looks broken.

The other thing that's 'broken' is Command properties. Setting the window position and size used to carry over to any Command prompt; now it appears that a standard Cmd and an elevated Cmd have different property settings (I launched them both from the WinX menu). And finally, if you change the font, the window size adjusts to the font size. I don't recall that happening before.

    Hi there
I use Powershell from Win+X menu --works fine -- I suspect command prompt if you haven't swapped it for powershell will also work fine from Win +X or right mouse from the start button.

I'd leave the menu stuff as Ms are obviously still playing with it and if you apply various "mods" they probably won't work at the next build.

    Cheers

I'm not sure what you mean by "unfinished scroll bar", the scroll bar is there because it has scroll history by default now, and the properties apply to the shortcut you used. It does this even in Windows 8.

  12. Unfinished in that it is out of style.
Win10 scroll bars are thin and disappear when not in focus.

I'll have to check the visual on Win8.1 next time I boot it up. I think it still uses the previous window style

Until I get around to that though, here's what a PS window looks like in 8.1
-> basically the same windowing for all 8.1 desktop apps-close enough to exemplify the 8.1 Cmd prompt window

10130 - Run as Administrator not working for Command Prompt [IMG]

It's not about the scrollbar, it's about the visual - the Win10 rendition looks unfinished (sort of like a builder's square)

In Win8.1 - when you set the properties in a std Cmd window, they apply to an Admin Cmd window as well. It's the same exe just ruining with different privileges. Not sure what's going on in Win10 - yet.

I'm looking into more serious issues than that - so this is back burner stuff.

I don't see how these two scroll bars are any different.

And no, I assure you, I have different settings for different command prompts in windows 8. It works exactly the same way. There is no difference. I have one that opens with large text, and another that opens with small text. The only difference is the icon I use. They're both admin prompts.
