128GB SSD big enough for Win 10?

We're getting close, though: Samsung announced a 30 TB SSD in February as documented in this story from The Verge: Samsung unveils world's largest SSD with whopping 30TB of storage. I'm afraid to ask what it costs, though: I'm guessing it will be at least $20K, perhaps more.

I am going to replace my aging Windows 7 system and saw an offer that includes a 128GB SSD. I have an SSD on my Win 7 system and definitely want one on a new computer. Is 128GB sufficient for Windows 10?

    :)

How can I change the storage location of Mail in Windows 10

There is no way to do what you want to do. For the reasons that you're now experiencing, 128GB is not likely to be big enough to use as a system drive in the long run. My C: drive (not an SSD), after a clean installation a month or so ago, is at about
    103GB.

  4. 128GB SSD big enough for Win 10?

How much additional space is needed on the hard drive for an upgrade from 8.1 (with all current updates) to 10?

My current 8.1 is installed on a 128GB SSD. I have only 17GB free space left on it. WIll it be enough for the upgrade to 10 or I need to replace my SSD with another one of a bigger size first?

    Thanks.

  5. I have had Windows 10 on my 120GB SSD since you could upgrade from Windows 7. I never got it over half full. That being said, if you install a lot of Steam games you might use up some major space. I have read that until you get down to around 20% free space you won't run into any slow down.

I am planning on getting a 250 as soon as I can just to have more space, but I have not ran into space issues with my 120 so far.

I currently have 87.5GB free of my 120 SSD. That includes over 4GB of pictures.

    Hope this helps. *Smile

If that is the only drive, then no.

If you have an hdd as well, 128 GB is ok but you will need to manage space carefully. 240+GB is better really but not essential.

Thanks. I should have stated that there is a 1TB hdd also. I have 256GB now but most of it is unused (only 84GB used)

  8. 128GB SSD big enough for Win 10?

A fresh copy of Windows 10 Home will take about 20 gb of disk space. Do the math on how many programs and the amount of data you will install on the SSD. For most of my clients, 120gb would be fine.

  9. I want Windows to be fast, but I also want all other disk access to be fast. So everything goes on the SSD. And it's fast.
That requires a larger SSD, so I got a 512 GB SSD.

  10. I used a 128 GB for Windows 10 and it worked fine. However, I used a 1 TB spinning HDD for my files and programs, as well as my user folders.

This strategy worked well until I lost my spinning drive to the CHKDSK gods, and the backups failed.

I started over with a 500 GB Samsung SSD for Windows 10 and files. The only thing that I do differently than perhaps other users do, is that I bought a 250 GB SSD to put my Steam games on, as they eat up a lot of room. So I have a separate drive just for games.

I don't see myself running our of space for the foreseeable future. My recommendation is to use a second spinning drive for your programs and files is you are using a 128 GB drive for Windows. Just make sure to securely back them both up.

Well I run a 512GB NVME SSD for my OS and program and 1 TB 850 pro,SATA SSD for storing my data. So I have no mechanical drives in my notebook at all.

  12. That's where I'll end up eventually ... no mechanicals. For now I have a 512 GB SSD, a 2 TB HDD, and another 2 TB HDD for backups. The latter will soon be replaced by an 8 TB HDD. But someday I'll have a 32 TB SSD. Yay!

  14. If "that" refers to the 512 GB / 2 TB / 2 TB ...
The 512 SSD and 2 TB HDD came with the desktop. The add-on 2 TB HDD cost around $70 USD.

If you're asking about the 32 TB SSD ... there's no such thing today, at least not in the consumer space. That why I said "someday".
