1366 x 768 Screen Resolution Not Available in Win 10

I'll apologize in advance if this is answered elsewhere here, but I couldn't find it.

I just installed a new hard drive and the techs suggested it was a good idea to put fresh Windows 10 on it. (It was originally W7, later upgraded to 8 and then 8.1.

I'm generally impressed with the new OS except that it does not offer 1366 x 768 resolution, which is what my monitor wants. Is there anything I can do besides:

    (1) buying a new monitor to replace a perfectly good one;

    (2) Reverting to 8.1; or

    (3) living with the various forms of distortion with the options provided?

I've looked online to see if there is a driver for this available, but can't find one.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

    :)

  2. Resolution problem after upgrading to Windows 10

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, my screen resolution changed from 1366 x 768 to 1024 x 768. The option to set it to the default one is not there. but there are some higher resolution available. I tried to update the drivers by going to
Windows Update but it says that no updates are available. I'm running 64bit Windows 10 on Acer AM1830

  3. Resolution issue in Windows 10 after upgrading

    Hi,

I am using Windows 7 Home basic on my Dell inspiron N5050. My screen resolution is currently 1366 * 768. However after I upgraded my OS to Windows 10 Home, the maximum resolution available was 1024 * 768. I was unable to change the resolution to 1366 * 768
as it was not available. Hence I formatted my system back to Windows 7 Home Basic. Please tell me is there any way to change the resolution to 1366 * 768 after upgrading it to Windows 10 Home as I will be trying to install Windows 10 again later.

1366 x 768 Screen Resolution Not Available in Win 10

Additional comment: I've just been checking out a few monitors online. I was somewhat shocked at the prices, but even more shocked that of the 10 or 12 that I checked out, none had any of the resolution choices offered by Win 10. One had the same resolution as my existing one.

Open Settings (Winkey + i) then click on System then Display and then advanced display settings at the bottom.

Click on resolution and you should see the setting.
    Or at least I do.
Click on the setting you want then confirm it.

On a number of monitors I've had to work with only the Maximum or Native resolution was shown in the monitor's menu. Usually the video card/adapter has a big impact on what the monitor can do. I have an Add-in AMD Radeon HD 6600 1GB PCIe X16 card that can only go to 1920x1080 but I prefer 1440x900, doesn't shown by number until I move the slide button down until it shows up.

The native resolution of the monitor, whatever it is, should appear in the options with (Recommended) next to it. Make sure you're scrolling through all of the options. It has to be there.

The only time I have seen the display options not be available is if Windows 10 does not install a proper graphics driver and reverts to showing the graphics card as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" in Device Manager. Then the highest resolution available is 1024 X 768. So, Wadi, what is your Device Manager showing as your display adapter? I have seen many reports of problems with Intel graphics where the proper drivers do not get installed.

Thanks, Alan. That's exactly what mine looks like-- but youtd has several more choices including the one I want. In other words, I have fewer options.

So it is probably not W 10 per se. I see a couple of other replies suggesting other solutions. I don't have time to try them tonight but will look into them tomorrow. Thanks, folks.

First, thank you for your reply. The weekend was busy so I just finally got around to the problem again.

My native resolution (1366 X 768) is definitely not on the list to choose from.

It took a while, but I finally found my device manager and, sure enough, it is shown as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter."

When the problem first surfaced, I suspected a driver problem, so went to a site that said it would check and update any drivers for Windows 10. It checked and said all my drivers were up-to-date.

How do I get the correct driver for the monitor? I went to the manufacturer's site (Asus) but it appears this model is no longer supported. I looked through my huge pile of CD's that came with my various bits of hardware, including many I don't even have any more, but can't find anything related to the monitor.

    Thanks again.

The last several new monitors I helped set up didn't come with drivers, only had a CD containing the manual. Seems the monitors relied upon the video card/adapter for everything. It may come down to the necessity of changing the video card or in the case of onboard/built-in adapter, change to an Add-in card.

I tried to look it all up under "Properties" but there's nothing there but generic descriptions.

Fortunately, I still do have the box! Here is what it says:

    Compaq Presario PC

    AMD Althion II X@ 240 dual-core Processor

    (Graphics) NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE

Needless to say, it is a few years old, but works great except for the hard drive needing replacement, which triggered the upgrade to W10.

Does it have a specific Presario model number? There are quite a few.

This is the latest driver for that graphics installation. It is for Windows 7. There is none for Windows 8 or 10. You could try it.

I would set a restore point after you turn them on(restore points are turned off by default in Windows 10) or better yet create an image of your system.
