1600x900 Not Working On Lenovo L530 (Screen Scrambled/Garbling)

    Hello Everyone,

This is a problem I recently noticed with my Lenovo Thinkpad L530 after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. After a couple weeks, the 1600x900 resolution (which is the native resolution of the screen) stopped working properly, as the screen garbles and displays incorrect colours and lines across the screen. As a temporary fix, I removed all of the drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller and for a brief time, the resolution was working. Sometimes trying different drivers for the Intel HD4000 worked for a couple days before the problem appeared again at the 1600x900. I disabled all of the automated driver updates as well, but eventually neither the basic Microsoft driver nor the various Intel drivers would work at 1600x900, and I ended up using the 1440x900 resolution and that worked for the most part. However, connecting the laptop to an external monitor works fine.

After another couple weeks, that lower resolution also was acting up so I decided to downgrade to 8.1 since I never saw that problem there. I did a clean install on the machine and immediately saw the problem again. I installed the 8.1 Intel HD 4000 driver from the Lenovo Support Page and the Lenovo Monitor file and this combination partly solved the problem; the 1600x900 resolution still garbles but the 1440x900 resolution appears to be working so far. On both OSes, I also see a yellow vertical line going across the screen; sometimes applying some pressure on the top edge temporarily resolves it.

I also tried using custom resolutions above 1440x900 on the laptop's LCD screen which didn't resolve the problem. What is odd is that the Lenovo startup screen prior to loading the OS and the Windows UAC prompt screen aren't garbled at the 1600x900 resolution on either OS.

If it is hardware related, from my reading it appears to either be the integrated video card itself (but since the external capability works fine, not sure if that is it), the LCD cable or the LCD screen itself.

Given that I am currently using a different OS and this is the Windows 10 Forums, I am not sure if it is strictly software related or if there is something wrong with the hardware itself since the symptoms appear to be the same. I can put Windows 10 back on the machine if it means that debugging this problem will be easier. I would appreciate any advice on this matter as it has confused me for the past couple of months.

    :)
