UEFI bios, win10 on two different drives, one 1607, one 1703 creators update

Received a request from from the MS community forum team to the status of this post.

Should have kept this simple, 2 separate hard drives both with win10, 1 1607 the other 1703.

Have been using the hard drive that has 1607, instead of upgrading 1607 to 1703, I just wanted

    to swap drive 1 (1607) too drive 2 (1703).

Just wiped the drive with 1703 and it in use as a storage drive.

  3. Windows 10 Creators Update Rollback

As Big Techie says, 1607 IS the Anniversary update.

I'm having the same problem - I need to roll back from Creators (1703) to Anniversary (1607). And the download tool only loads 1703. Microsoft, can you provide a link to download 1607 please?

    1607 to 1703 question?

I've found it worthwhile on several machines, Desktops, Notebooks and Tablets. You only need sufficient room for the download, maybe run Disk Cleanup first. How big is your drive and what type?

You'd be hard pressed to spot much difference. More of the settings have moved from Control Panel into Settings, Edge can now export its bookmarks. Most of the new stuff is to do with 3D and VR - nice if you have the equipment, but not active if you don't. There are some nice improvements but they are mostly 'under the radar' - you can make/use multiple partitions on USBs, for example. Regedit now has an address bar you can type in to go directly to a key.

You'll get it eventually through windows update, but unless you need the new features there's no rush. I do like 1703, but it's not a major step-change (unless you have VR). That may be coming in the Fall Creators Update due out later this year.

On my x86 Pro test machine (see System Two in my specs) 1703 is about 2GB larger than 1607 after a full Disk Clean up > clean up system files.

There is a new feature in 1703 CU that allows moving some Tiles into 1 tile "stack them" so as to take up less room on the Start. Since I don't use them much I have Mail, Cortana and Translator on one, clicking it expands the 3.

    1607 to 1703 question?

Yes, 1703 gets monthly cumulative updates just like 1607 (and 1511, come to that). The same security/bug fixes are released simultaneously for all three currently supported versions of Windows 10. In fact, they are also released for 8.1 and 7 as they are still supported versions of Windows.

Actually, that's the "rule of the day", Win10 will continually be updated with Builds and periodically Upgraded to a newer Version. Supposedly Windows 10 is the last major release/edition. Oh, and it was announced that is what would happen back a few years ago when the Technical Preview [now the Insider Preview] was made available. So far it's been Version 1507 [first] then Version 1511 then Version 1607 and now on Version 1703. xxxx = Year and Month of release.

I did the upgraded from 1607 to 1703 and have one problem
I had a short cut on my desktop to Windows Defender and I cannot remove it. Looks like Win10 moved
the Defender and I even tried safe mode , It said I need to provide Administrator permission to delete it

    Thanks

You need to create the shortcut again. But I usually right-click the Taskbar, click Taskbar Settings and in the list go to Select which icons show on the taskbar and turn On the Windows Defender Notification icon so it shows in the Notification Area where the clock/time is. Double-clicking it will open WD.

For deleting that icon you may have to open Task Manager or msconfig and reboot in safe mode.

There's 2 places to find Windows Defender, C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Defender but I didn't see the an actual .exe file for the program there.

No exe file for Old Defender. It is just a shell of the old Defender Icon and cannot rename it. tried to move it to a folder to hide it and cannot move it. What ever I do I need provide Administrator permission to do anything

    1607 to 1703 question?

The old Defender user interface is alive and well in 1703. It's C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe
Create Windows Defender Antivirus Shortcut in Windows 10

For your desktop icon you can't remove, try taking ownership then granting yourself full control. Right-click on it, select Properties then on the Security tab click the Advanced button. Then click Change on the window that appears. Once you are the owner, click Edit on the Security tab and add your user account to the list with full control, if it's not already there. Then try deleting it again.
