Windows 10: 1803 Pro has incorrect CompositionEditionID - says Enterprise

There are two places in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion that identify the installed edition, CompositionEditionID and EditionID.

In 1803 Pro these contradict each other, EditionID says Professional is installed, while CompositionEditionID says Enterprise. This is the case on all machines I've looked at, whether for a clean install or an upgrade. On my test machine the 1709 Pro install that was upgraded to 1803 correctly showed Professional in CompositionEditionID but this was changed to Enterprise by the upgrade.





This error was first reported in Insiders build 17063, but appears to have remained uncorrected through to the RTM release. There are no obvious ill effects from this error, but it was reported that it prevents the upgrade of Pro to Pro Workstation.

Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...


That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

I suggest Option 1 is easier.

If you still have problems, please repost listing each specific step and saying which option from the tutorial you are using. Thanks.

Please follow the steps below to go back to the normal startup:

• 
  Type windows + r to open run command.
  
• 
  Type msconfig to open system configuration.
  
• 
  Uncheck the safe mode.
  
• 
  Then restart the computer and check.

Downgrading Windows 10 enterprise to pro

The procedure is a bit arcane, but I have managed to convert an Enterprise Evaluation to Pro, doing it in two steps: EnterpriseEval to Enterprise (unactivated); then Enterprise (unactivated) to Pro. Details here.
