Windows 10: 1809 screwed my Public directories that I had moved

Just a word of warning.

Yesterday I updated my desktop to 1809.

prior to this I had moved my Public directories using the MKLINK / J....... command.

The update appeared to go fine but on rebooting, I discovered it had put the Public directories back on the C drive, and both the C drive and the disk I had moved them to, both had completely empty Public directories.

I decided to clean install 1809 and leave Public on C drive, this worked fine

Moving the Public Folders to another drive under Windows 10


You can, but the Public directory can be a little tricky to move.

You will need to takeownership of it as well as a couple sub directories that will be owned by SYSTEM. Once you've taken ownership you will then need to grant your account full access recursively.
At that point you should be able to move the directory.
Last step, from an elevated command prompt run mklink /J C:\Users\Public M:\PathtoPublic

Optionally you can change the owner back to system

Going this route will allow the OS to still have the C:\Users\Public directory, but behind the scenes the data is stored on the other drive.

First of all nice utility, Mindweaver!
Second of all, it's so nice to see that this section ain't dead.

I have a few questions/suggestions, maybe you'd want to see ...

• maybe you rename Get Folder button caption to something more intuitive? Add Folder, Get Folder Size, Check Folder Size or something like that?
  
• Could you add subfolder files to the right pane? (it can be a tickbox with include sub dirs)
  
• maybe you also add export list to excel?
  
• there's delete file button maybe you add delete folder button too?
  
• and finally maybe you can add UP button for directories?
