  1. 1909 refuse to upgrade to 2004 - keep throwing 80070002

So, title basically says it all: My current 1909 refuse to upgrade to 2004 and keeps throwing this 80070002 error code.

Yes, I did searched the net at already tried quite a few things - but, at least until now, I wasn'T able to successfully perform the upgrade.

Additional information: This is a multi-boot system with several OS installed on several partions. Here's my hdd layout (MBR type):

    1. linux swap
    2. win7
    3. win10
    4. linux

As there're only 4 partitions all of them are primary, none is within an extended. The system first boots grub2 from the linux, this, when windows is selected, then boots the win10 bootloader which contains 2 entries to either boot win7 or win10.

As I had some update issues on the win10 in the past I already set the win10 partition to active which solved some issues in the past (although I do not know how the system is able to start the grub2 first if the win10 is set as active - but I guess that's some MBR magic), but it doesn'T seem to do the trick this time.

As this isn't my main system but rather "to play around when chillin on the sofa" it sure wouldn't be a problem to just completely wipe the entire hdd and re-setup all 3 systems from zero (as the linux is also pending an upgrade which has to be done as late as november) - but I'd like to avoid it, as it takes so much time just cause some weird windows error prevents it from successfully perform some task ...

    Things I already tried:

    • make sure date and time is synched to ntp
    • set win10 as active partition (solved SOME issues in the past)
    • cleared the update cache
    • tried some troubleshooting from MSDN - but most of them only result either in "no issues found" or rather quickly end with "success" (I don't know if they did something)
    • made sure all other updates for 1909 are installed (checked manually some lists - seem all good and in correct order)
    • restarted the system several times (as I know from years of experience: if nothin else works - completely shutdown the entire system and cleanly reboot it) - this also solved very few issues in the past sometimes

As I'm out of ideas I'm sure at least one of you here still has some tricks up your sleeves I didn'T thought about yet. ANY help is appreciated - even those "did you turn it off and on again?" ones - as, sometimes, they in fact do help. So, please feel free to just post any idea comming up in your head - I'm sure some may help.

If any fail I guess I have to take some weekend to wipe the drive ... that'll be a long weekend ...

    1909 vs 2004

I thought (maybe) or suggested (possibly) this seemed to be true immediately with 2004, but after being with it for a few days I do find & feel 2004 superior to 1909. No, this isn't from fancy lab set ups & testing
or Swiss stop-watches... nothing but, plain ole everyday use.

2004, same hardware, same software, definitely is faster, snappier, more responsive & more fluid than 1909 (was).

    Cheers,

    Drew

  3. 1909 Install ISO no longer available (2004 upgrade currently blocked)

I have a similar issue but want 1909 on USB.

I had 1909 on USB until it was suggested it may be a corrupt and when i tried to recreated it i ended up with 2004, i now have 2004 installed but nothing but problems. I have a new Motherboard due and want a clean install of 1909 and when 2004 is fit for use
    i will try again.

    Any Ideas please!
