Windows 10: 1GB fiber internet speed cut 90%, but ONLY on my PC...??

I had a fiber internet 1GB connection installed about 20 months ago. Its been working like a dream, with a 5GHz router I can stream anything without buffering even on WiFi. My SpeedTest.net speeds have been 950/down and 250/up like clockwork since the day I got the service.

A month ago my PC's download speed got cut off at the knees. I noticed downloads taking much longer than normal and ran a test. It is now at 40/down every single time I run a test, but still (and this seems important) 250/up, just like always. Its only download speed thats effected.

The thing is this problem is ONLY happening on my PC. And, also important, it happens with both the on-board LAN port and a USB 3/LAN adapter I just purchased. Totally separate hardware, exact same results: 40/down, 250/up.

I had a tech from my provider come out and he upgraded me to a brand new fiber box and wireless router. His own taptop tested 950/down, 250/up on the first try. I used the exact same cable and port that my PC uses with my own laptop and got the same: 950/down, 250/up. Even my Galaxy 7 phone gets 250/down, 150/up on a WiFi connection. My X-Box and TV systems are also still at full speed connected with LAN cables.

The PC download speed, however, is gutted. It HAS to be a Windows 10 problem as the issue happens with both LAN connection options--the onboard port and the USB adapter. This happened out of nowhere roughly June 1st. I have not played with any Windows, router, or firewall settings in over a year.

The only things I've done to try to correct this is change the Limit Reservable Bandwidth option using gpedit.msc, and used the "TCP Optimization" software from Speedguide, both of which fixed similar issues for others. It made zero difference.

I have no idea what's causing this. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Router with Fiber channel port for internet connection at home

Hi Guys,

My internet provider is ready to provide me internet through fiber channel as his internet providing(racks,switches) setup room is just 10 meters away from my home.

-Would you suggest me some routers of some equipment which can satisfy my fiber internet setup at home with WiFi facility?

-is there any adapter I can use to connect to PC(motherboard)?

-Will it be more expensive?

i wrote this on another post when the guys at Maximium PC were complaining that there should be a fiber network across the country:

Trying to flesh out high speed internet across the US will be a extremely daunting and expensive task. The US is the third largest country in the world and people have this tendency to build their homes in the most god awful locations to run fiber to. 7 miles up a dirt road in rural Maine with only 6 houses on the road (like where my brother-in-law lives) and you want fiber to your home, seriously? In NYC alone, there are 2,146,892 apartments with every one of them needing to have new fiber pulled through the building's walls to give them all a fiber connection. Add all of the smaller towns and villages and all of the old apartment buildings in the country alone would be something only the government could afford to do the infrastructure. All of the really high speed countries are small and have these huge, newly built cities where 90% of the people are urban dwellers. As for the largest countries, do you think China has fiber to their desert communities or Russia supplies high speed internet across Siberia? We will have to wait for some sort of technology solution like high speed wireless hub based stations sprinkled around a region. Ubiquitous fiber to the home is a long ways away.

I wonder if your internet is running on fiber optic cables. The speeds are quite accurate. I am actually paying only for 60Mbps speed but I normally get between 80 and 90+Mbps actual speeds. Maybe fiber optics advantage?
