    2-Tone Sounds.


    I'm experiencing frequent 2-tone sounds. NOT beeps, but tones. On a musical scale, something like E-G, G-E. Often every few seconds. It's like someone sounding a 2-tone car horn down-up, up-down. Every time the sound occurs, the icons in the task bar jump about. Whether or not I'm engaged in some computer activity, they still occur. In every other respect the computer is behaving normally. All drivers are up to date. Up-down tones are not necessarily followed by down-up. Sometimes there are repeated instances of the same double-tone. I'm baffled. Anyone any ideas, please.

    Good surround sound headset

    I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue 2-Tone Sounds. :p

    One thing that sticks out from looking at your "My Computer" specs. You list "ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)" which suggests you do not have the correct sound hardware driver. Your motherboard has Realtek sound and the first step is to install the Realtek sound drivers. My ASUS also came with Sonic Studio 2 which is a sound enhancement package. Check the ASUS install disc to see if you have something similar.

    May not be a speaker problem.

    2-Tone Sounds.

    Use/significance of the system notification tone

    Like just about every user, my win10-1909 installation uses the default windows sounds.
    And over time I've noticed an apparent correlation in the performance of one application and the tone that sounds about 10-15 sec (?) into a startup sequence. As best I can determine, that start sound matches the system notification tone (from the control panel sound page, sounds tab list. One element of that app works better after the tone, than if the PC has started to work before it occurs.
    So, is there a ready explanation of what that system notification sound is used for, and what it means in a start sequence?
