Windows 10: 2004 update big problems

I ran the 2004 update. It is problematic. The old path was C/Users/MyUserName where MyUserName is the username I chose but now it goes to C/Users/Temp.ComputerName.002. where ComputerName is the name I gave to my computer

Microsoft Edge cannot find my favorites.

All of the taskbar shortcuts that I added have gone.

All of the Desktop shortcuts that I added have gone.

This is really a very bad update.

Have I got to find every file, shortcut and favorite and re-position them?

How do I stop all future files from saving to the temp folder?

Should the temp folder have deleted as part of the update process?

Why is the 2004 update so bad?

Step: 1

Open the link below

Step 2:

Click Update which will download the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant

Step 3:

Run the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant & then click Update now.

Step 4: It will start downloading the update and also shows the percentage of download.

Problem with 2004 IS0

It does help if you read the replies *Wink I mentioned the 4GB Fat32 limit in post #6

As for getting MCT to run on your machines, I showed in post #6 a screenshot of it running on mine.

In post #18 I suggested troubleshooting steps to get the MCT to run, and if that failed a way to split up an install.wim that's larger than 4GB.

I would suggest you to try the below suggestions to get rid of the issue.

For issues with the Command prompt popping up I suggest you to try the below steps.

Disable OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration.

Sometimes this behavior can be traced to Microsoft Office – even if you don’t have it on PC there is a Get Office icons that auto installs and it is the program that is causing the problem. To fix this:

1. Open Task scheduler.
   
2. Look for the arrow near scheduler library. Once you see the layers below, click on the arrow near Microsoft Folder.
   
3. Click little arrow next to Office in the right column, search for
   OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration task and disable it. Then check the status of the issue.
   

Regarding the issue with the installation of Windows Updates, I suggest you to follow the below mentioned steps.

Unplug all the external devices except Mouse & keyboard and check for Updates.

To check for Updates, select the Start button, go to
Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update >
Check for Updates.

You may also refer this article Fix Windows Update issues for more troubleshooting steps.

Note: This article suggest you to perform an in-place upgrade at last to fix the issue with Windows Updates. I suggest you to back up the data/documents on an external storage device before performing the in-place upgrade on your computer.
