Windows 10: 2004 update hard crashes my PC

Installed 2004 update on my laptop, and during the initial reboot, i.e., when there's some circley animation, everything just hard crashes and remains frozen. No reboot, bluescreen, or anything, just a frozen image of the animation which remains until I force it off. I've (hard) rebooted a few times, same result.

Uninstalled the update, and luckily it works again - I have a final exam via Adobe Connect tomorrow after all. I thought I get updates out of the way before that!

Should I even try again? The laptop isn't particularly old or odd - and never had any issues with Windows updates before. I don't see any thread here stickied about 2004 issues - so I suppose it's just me?

I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

If another version works, it would be one set of steps.
If several other versions also fail/crash, then it would be another.
