[2004] Windows does not automatically connect my second Wi-Fi adapter anymore

    Hello,

I have 2 different Wi-Fi adapters : Wi-Fi 2, internal, rather weak; and Wi-Fi 3, external USB, powerful. I only connect the Wi-Fi 3 adapter when I need it, since it is quite impractical. They both connect to the same Wi-Fi network.

Before the 2004 update, whenever I would plug the Wi-Fi 3 adapter, Windows would automatically connect it to my Wi-Fi network Both adapters being set to automatically connect to it. This doesn't work anymore, since I upgraded to 2004. Now I need to manually connect Wi-Fi 3 to my Wi-Fi network, despite it still being set to automatically connect to it. The only scenario in which it does connect automatically is when Wi-Fi 2 is not connected to any network, which is almost never the case unless I manually disconnect it.

How can I go back to the previous behaviour of automatically connecting Wi-Fi 3 to my Wi-Fi network regardless of if there's already another adapter connected ? Ideally, I would love to have Wi-Fi 2 automatically disconnect or even deactivate whenever Wi-Fi 3 is plugged and come back or reactivate whenever it is unplugged, but that's a bonus.

Also, setting Wi-Fi 2 to not automatically connect to my Wi-Fi network is not an option since I do use it.

I've searched for solutions, but everything I could find does not work in a scenario with several adapters for instance netsh wlan set profileorder doesn't seem to help sadly, nor roaming aggressiveness.

Thank you in advance if you know how to fix that.

    Regards

EDIT: I forgot to mention I was on Windows 10 Family, which might be useful information... Sorry.

    :)

Windows 10 stop automatically connecting to random new wi-fi networks

    Hi,

I have searched a lot, but all the tutorials I found only explained how to not connect automatically to a known wi-fi network or how to disable wi-fi sense... but this is not what I am looking for...

    PROBLEM:

    • When my laptop (Windows 10 Pro X64) is not connected to a network and the wireless adapter is on, it will automatically connect to any random new unsecured wi-fi network... The only way I have now to avoid this is to disable my wi-fi adapter.

UNUSEFUL TUTORIALS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET:

    • How to manually uncheck the option for a particular wi-fi network not to connect automatically in Network Properties. This is not what I am looking for. This would suggest that everytime I power my computer. I would have to manually go through all the available wi-fi networks and unclick them all...
    • How to disable Wi-Fi Sense. This is not useful, because I don't even have a Wi-Fi sense option in my computer where the tutorials say it should be.

    EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

    • I am looking for an option to tell my computer to stop connecting randomly to unknown wi-fi networks like an hyperactive, reckless idiot.

    PERSONAL COMMENT:

    • Honestly, why would any respectable company think that it could be somewhat wise or secure to do this... Anyone's computer could just randomly connect to any hacker's wi-fi network without the user even knowing it...

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Automatically switch on to stronger Wi-Fi connection

    Hi Joe,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

This could be achieved by enabling the Roaming Aggressiveness
for your Wi-Fi adapter. Roaming Aggressiveness alters the signal strength threshold at which your Wi-Fi adapter starts scanning for another candidate AP. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

    • Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
      Device Manager.

    • Expand Network Adapters and right click on your
      Wi-Fi adapter.
    • Choose Properties and click on
      Advanced
      tab.
    • Under Property, click on Roaming Aggressiveness
and on the right pane set it to the highest value.
    • Exit Device Manager and try automatic connection to see if it works.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

[2004] Windows does not automatically connect my second Wi-Fi adapter anymore

    Wi-Fi Is Not Connecting Automatically

Every time I started my computer, my wi-fi adapter would connect to the wi-fi network automatically. But now, I have to enter the password and connect manually every time I login to my computer. Even if I check "Connect Automatically" it doesn't help.

Tried the following, still isn't working.
