2009 Alienware Aurora, just went from Win 7 to Win10, Fans continuously restarting

So as the title says I went through the arduous process of getting Win10 on this ancient PC. One of the things about these old Alienwares is the antiquated and elaborate fan setup they have. When you initially turn on the PC you can hear what sounds like a jet breaking the sound barrier but this is in fact the fans initially turning on. Now that Win10 is installed I think the fan controller might have broken. The fans don't do the full restart but they will randomly whine, there is no pattern to it or any errors popping up. Is there any way to go about seeing what is happening with my fans?

    :)

  2. Alienware Aurora-R3 & Windows 10

When you have windows 10 installed there is another trick which fixes the fans and makes the Command Center work with my Alienware Aurora R3 when the fans are at 100% and the Command Centre shows no control over fans...

Open your Aurora R3, near the front of the Alienware R3 you will see the SISTER motherboard (smaller than the main) which controls the fans. Unplug the 4 pin power cable with a white thick plastic connector(it may seem stuck and hard to pull out but try
to do it CAREFULLY WITH THE POWER CABLE DISCONNECTED), then power up the Windows 10 Aurora R3 with the sister board unpowered. Then when in windows 10 (the fans should be at 100%), shut down via the software and re-plug the power cable to the Sister motherboard
controlling the fans, enter the Windows 10 again and the fans should be stable and Control Centre should allow you control on the fans either manual or auto.

There was another way I got the fans down from 100% but only recommended as a last resort if you don't want to tamper with the hardware, (it can mess up the operating system and it goes into auto repair where it prompts you to re-install windows 10 - don't
go for the re-install option, restarts and different options fix it always eventually)... you go into sleep mode on windows 10 aurora r3, then when it is in sleep mode power down and power up, the fans MAY normalise, it is hit or miss.

There is also an options in Windows System Admin regarding the fans cannot remember where but you will see it somewhere under power management I think under the Aliwnware FX setting, I cannot remember the proper disable or enable setting that is should be
    either it's been so long.

  3. Alienware Aurora-R3 & Windows 10

should have posted this in a this sub thread instead maybe as I dunno if the other users will get a notification for my last post but here goes.. note you may get the fans working fine for say 20 restarts with Windows 10 Aurora R3 but then it can all go
South, here is a possible solution:

    Alienware Aurora-R3 & Windows 10

    @aglowucannotsee

Those blue screen errors could be due to IRQ conflicts for PCI cards on your main motherboard. With my Aurora R3 I had major issues at one point when I unplugged and re-plugged my KILLER NIC 2100 Network card for Ethernet, Windows 10 would not restart due
to an IRQ relating to the network card that was out of range so I decided to get rid of the card and just use the Ethernet port on the main Aurora R3 motherboard, I ran some tests and it was just as good as the network card and I threw away my Bigfoot Killer
NIC card (it didn't have any Windows 10 drivers on the website anyway). I've never had a blue screen of death on my Windows 10 Aurora R3, one thing that I did have a problem with though is that I was being forced to power down with the power button for shut
down or restart otherwise if I used the Windows 10 menu for shutdown/restart it would hang on the next reboot - this is no longer a problem as I re-installed the INTEL_CHIPSET-SOFTWARE-INSTA_A00_R284186.exe and the Renesas_Integrated-USB-3-0_A00_R286402.exe
for the 2nd time and somehow it fixed this issue and now I can restart via the Windows 10 software and it restarts normally without the freeze on startup with necessitates a power down and power up to fix (annoyingly). Now the big problem I had with Windows
10 is that it somehow messed up my Alienware Master IO board (MIO) which controls the lighting, temp. sensors, fans and water cooling, Windows 10 decided to perform an automatic update and this was before I had fixed the software restarts by installing (for
the 2nd time) the two Dell .exe files I mentioned before, so the update hung and I performed a power down and up via the button on the front panel.. but when I entered Windows 10 again Alienware Control Center was no longer working, it could not read temperatures
and you could not set the fans or change the lights via Alienware FX it was broken... hitting F12 on start up for Dell Diagnostics stated that there was an error on my MIO board and no re-installing/repairing Alienware Command Center would fix it. I opened
the Alienware and attempted to perform a factory reset on the MIO board by temporarily changing the green jumper position on the MIO and then restarting and then changing it back but nothing, Dell Diagnostincs complained about a device on USB (the MIO is attached
to the Motherboard USB) - BUT NONE OF THIS WORKED I HAD NO WATER COOLING AND THE CPU FAN and REAR FAN WERE NOT WORKING ONLY THE PCI FAN WAS ON AT 50% WHICH WOULD MEAN A BUST PC WHEN IT GOT HOT IN THE SUMMER OR BEFORE. So to fix the MIO I simply unplugged
it's power connector, restarted the machine into Windows 10 and then re-plugged the power connector on the MIO and entered Windows 10 and voila !! it worked again, I re-installed Alienware Command Center and all fans were controllable and the lighting on the
side of the Alienware worked again. All in all I am very happy with Windows 10 and Alienware Aurora R3 now, it detects my multi-screen setup 2xDell PCs and a large Cintiq 24HD on screen drawing tablet much better than Windows 7 ever did. It's stable, fast
and if you like games/graphics it has DX12, I would say after a bit of initial pain it was worth it. I so wish that Dell would have updated the BIOS from A06 to something more Windows 10 easy install ... I am trying to guess why they did it ? was it to make
people give up and buy their new machines ? was the BIOS change impossible for them ? (unlikely). Have they lost the BIOS source code ? do the developers of the Alienware Aurora R3 A06 BIOS no longer work at Dell and it is too difficult to maintain... answers
on a post card please Dell !
