Windows 10: 2022-03 .NET 6.0.3 Security Update for x64 Client KB5012417 Install error - 0x80070643

I have just been installing the latest batch of updates but keep getting this error whenever i retry. All the other updates worked fine; just this one broke. I will upoad a screenshot of update history. If you need any more info please just give me a shout

This update is only for those running Visual Studio 2022 Preview working on .NET dev. There is currently a download error for which there is not yet a resolution, I suspect, because Microsoft has not yet had time to add it to their Update catalogue unless anyone else here has a better explanation? That link is not yet functional for manual download.

I came across the same issue when the last .NET 6x Update was released and it resolved eventually.

However, Microsoft .NET SDK 6.0.200-preview.22055.15(x64) from Visual Studio 188 KB was installed on 07/02/2022

Earlier, on 16/12/2021, Microsoft .NET SDK 6.0.101 (x64) 817 MB and Microsoft ASP.NET Core 6.0.1 - Shared Framework (x64) were installed.

If any other users of .NET 6x have any thoughts on this please comment here.

I will update this when I have successfully installed it or know more about the error if it persists. It's very early yet and no info is yet available on the internet.

Please note that .NET 6x will not install unless Visual Studio 2022 Preview is present on systems.

Firstly, thank you so much for your trouble and help with the download link. It worked a treat, unlike the residual Windows Update 0x80070643 error still hanging around, despite my successful download from your link.

However, this page does now clearly state that these binaries are:

... whereas, Microsoft had previously stated that the .NET 6x Core was only available for VS 2022 Preview. This appears no longer to be the case. It now looks as if the latest VS 2022 (v. 17.0) has finally inherited .NET 6x integration, which is excellent news, except that I must now install that version as well as, or in place of (probably best as these are big programs) the Preview version. So that is what I will now do. I have ascertained that this development occurred some weeks ago and I just missed it somehow having taken a break from coding for a while to focus more on my music.

It's a great deal of work as I have heavily customised my current Preview version, so I best just crack on and make a start. I quite like the idea now anyway as it happens. Nice and simple to go mainstream again as opposed to bleeding edge.

I have no option now anyway it seems as the security patch I want to install won't install on the Preview. Well that sucks. One would have thought it would as not doing so invalidates and obviates the very notion of bleeding edge previews which should be compatible with current releases. Oh well. It's all very fickle, quite a tight rope. But we'll get there in the end.

Looking at it positively, the Preview did at least serve its purpose in making 6x available, even if now somewhat redundant.

Here's where I am at so far with this. I have successfully downloaded the security patch from the link you kindly provided, no issues there. However, it will not install from the .EXE, I am assuming because the patch does not support Preview, only v17.0 stable. I'll know the answer some time today when I can get around to it, and will then update this thread, hopefully, to say it is all now resolved. Windows itself cannot install the patch either via Windows Update as you can see above. Double clicking the .EXE results in a quick screen flash and then instant abort, all over in less than a second.

I just discovered that the Official Release Date for Visual Studio 2022 was only very recent, just the 1st February 2022, not long ago at all.

So things are changing very quickly in this theatre. I have yet to ascertain whether the VS Community version (Free) supports .NET 6x but will update this thread when I know, sometime later today when I have installed it in place of the Preview.

This is proving to be a very tricky matter. I have VS Community 2022 installed and still no dice so far. I am working hard on solving this and will keep updating helpful information as it appears. But, if anyone here can help, feel free. That would be much appreciated.
